A value or setting that takes effect when the equipment is
turned on, reset, or initialized.
download font
A font that is loaded into the printer’s memory from an outside
source, such as a computer.
dpi
Dots per inch. This is a measure of print resolution.
driver
The part of an application program that converts commands
from the program into commands used by the printer. Also
known as the printer driver.
drum
The part of the printer mechanism where the image is formed
and transferred to the paper.
electrophotographic process
The printing method used by your printer. In this process, a
low-power laser is used to expose selected portions of a
revolving photosensitive drum. Toner is then attracted to the
exposed areas of the drum to form a mirror image of the page
to be printed. The toner adhering to the drum is then
transferred to the surface of the paper where it is fused in place
using a process combining heat and pressure.
ESC (escape) code
A special control code used to begin most printer commands.
