6.8 Arc Current Detector Circuits
TherearethreeArcCurrentDetectorcircuitsintheEPP-450.OneisusedinternallytocontrolthePilotArcContactor,K4.
Theothertwoareavailableforremoteuse.
AgalvanicallyisolatedtransistorCurrentDetectorOutputisaccessibleatJ1-G(-)andJ1-P(+).J1isthe24conductorcon-
nectorontheEPP-450frontpanel.Thetransistorisbestsuitedforswitchingsmallrelaysorlowcurrentlogicsignalslike
thoseutilizedbyPLC’s(ProgrammableLogicControllers).Thetransistorcanwithstandamaximumpeakvoltageof150V.
Itcanswitchamaximumof50mA.ThetransistorturnsonwheneverthearccurrentthroughtheWorkLeadexceeds3A.
Pilotarcsnotestablishingmainarcswillnotturnonthetransistor.
AsecondcurrentdetectoroutputisavailableatTB8-3andTB8-4.Thisoutputissuppliedbyanisolatedrelaycontactrated
for150V,3Amperes.ThiscontactisclosedwhentheprimaryinputpowertotheEPP-450iso.Itopenswheneverprimary
powerissuppliedtothepowersource,anditcloseswhenmainarccurrentisestablished.Likethetransistoroutput,the
relaycontactcloseswheneverthearccurrentthroughtheWorkLeadexceeds3A.Pilotarcsnotestablishingmainarcswill
notclosethecontact.
