Overview

The Fanvil X3SG is a versatile IP phone designed for efficient communication in various professional settings. It offers a comprehensive set of features for call management, contact organization, and user customization, all accessible through an intuitive interface.

Function Description

The core function of the X3SG is to facilitate voice communication over an IP network. It supports standard telephony operations such as making and receiving calls, as well as advanced features like call transfer, call forwarding, and conferencing. The device integrates a phonebook for easy contact management and programmable keys for quick access to frequently used functions. It also includes features to enhance call privacy and manage incoming calls, such as mute, do not disturb (DND), and voice mail access.

Call Management

  • Making a Call: Users can initiate calls through several methods: pre-dialing (entering the number then picking up the handset), direct dialing (lifting the handset then entering the number), hands-free mode (entering the number then pressing the hands-free key), or headset mode (entering the number then pressing the headset key).
  • Accepting a Call: Calls can be answered by picking up the handset, pressing the headset key, or pressing the hands-free key.
  • Putting a Call on Hold: A call can be placed on hold by pressing the Hold key or the "Hold" soft key. To retrieve the call, the user presses the Hold key or the "Resume" soft key. If multiple calls are active, the navigation keys can be used to select the desired call before holding or resuming.
  • Call Transfer: The X3SG supports both attended and blind transfers.
    • Attended Transfer: During an active call, pressing the Transfer key or "Xfer" soft key puts the current call on hold. The user then dials the second number. Once the second call is answered, pressing the Transfer key or "Xfer" soft key completes the transfer.
    • Blind Transfer: During an active call, pressing the Transfer key or "Xfer" soft key puts the current call on hold. The user then enters the second telephone number and presses the Transfer key or "Xfer" soft key to complete the transfer without waiting for the second party to answer.
  • Call Forward: This feature allows users to redirect incoming calls to another number. It is configured via the Menu, under Features > Call Forward, where the user selects the line, type of forward, destination number, and status.
  • 3-Party Conference: To initiate a conference call, while in a call with the first party, the user presses the Conference key or "Conf" soft key, which places the first caller on hold. The user then dials the second number. Once the second call is established, pressing the Conference key or "Conf" soft key sets up the conference.
  • Mute: During a call, pressing the Mute key mutes the microphone, preventing the other party from hearing the user. Pressing it again un-mutes the microphone.
  • Do Not Disturb (DND): This feature allows users to block incoming calls. It can be activated by pressing the "DND" soft key or configured via the Menu, under Features > DND, where the user selects the mode and type.
  • Voice Mail: Users can access their voice mailbox by pressing the Voice Mail key or navigating through the Menu > Message > Voice Message. The number of new messages will be indicated if supported by the server or PBX. Users can then select the line and press "Play" to call.
  • Redial: Pressing the Redial key redials the last called number.
  • Call List: The device maintains a log of local calls. Users can access this list by pressing the Call List key or navigating through the Menu > Call Log > Local Call Logs. The list can be scrolled using the navigation keys. To dial an entry, users can press the "Dial" soft key, pick up the handset, or press the Hands-free key or Headset key.

Contact Management

  • Phonebook Access: The phonebook can be accessed by pressing the Phonebook key, "Contact" soft key, or navigating through the Menu > PhoneBook > Local Contacts. Users can select "All Contacts" or other groups. To dial an entry, users can press the "Dial" soft key, pick up the handset, or press the Hands-free key or Headset key.
  • Add New Entry: To add a new contact, users press the "Contact" soft key, then "All Contacts" or another group, and then "Add." They then enter the name and number and press the "OK" soft key.

User Customization and Interface

  • Programmable Keys: The X3SG features programmable keys that can be configured as shortcuts for various functions. This is done via the Menu > Basic > Keyboard, where users select the desired item, type, and value, then press "OK."
  • Language Setting: The device's display language can be changed via the Menu > Basic > Language. Users select the desired language and press the "OK" soft key.
  • Screen Icons: The screen displays various icons to indicate the phone's status, such as hands-free mode, headset mode, handset mode, mute status, ringer off, call on hold, auto-answering activated, VPN activated, call forward activated, do not disturb (blue/red), SIP hotspot activated, VLAN activated, new SMS, new VM messages, voice quality level, keypad locked, missed call(s), forward call(s), received call(s), dialed call(s), internet connected/disconnected, and no IP address.
  • Navigation Keys: The left and right navigation keys are used for scrolling. The up navigation key provides a shortcut to the call log, while the down navigation key provides a shortcut to the status screen. The "OK" key serves as a shortcut to the Menu.
  • Volume Control: In idle mode or during ringing, the volume keys increase or decrease the ringer volume. During a call, they adjust the earpiece, headset, or hands-free volume.
  • Keypad Lock: Long pressing the '#' key locks the keypad. Entering a PIN is required to unlock it.

Maintenance Features

  • Configuration via Phone: The phone's network settings (DHCP/Static/PPPoE) and account settings (SIP server address, port, username, password) can be configured directly through the device's menu (Menu > System, default password 123).
  • Configuration via Web: For more advanced configuration, the device can be accessed through a web browser. Users first obtain the phone's IP address (via the Phonebook key or Menu > Status > IPv4/IPv6). Then, they input the IP address into a web browser (ensuring the PC and phone are on the same IP address segment, with the default username and password being 'admin'). Network and account settings can then be configured and saved.
  • Physical Connections: The device is designed for easy setup. It includes ports for a power adapter, network cable, PC connection, headset, and handset. These connections are clearly labeled and described in the manual for straightforward installation.
  • Desktop and Wall Mounting: The X3SG supports both desktop installation using a bracket and wall mounting (requiring a separately purchased wall stand), providing flexibility in deployment.
