5.6UsingtheTypeKThermometer(TG56only)
ATypeKthermocouplethermometerjackisprovidedatthetopoftheTG56.Thethermocouple
plughasawideandathinconnectingblade,pleaseinsertthethermocouplecarefully,inthe
correctorientation;donotforceitintothejack.
Whenathermocoupleisconnected,thetemperatureofthesurfaceinwhichthe thermocouple
istouchingisdisplayed(nexttothe
icon)alongwiththeIRtemperaturereading.
Thedisplaymodeareaofthescreen(middleoftoprowoficons)showsthethermocouple
iconwhenathermocoupleisconnected.ThedifferencebetweentheIRreadingandthe
thermocouplereadingisdisplayednexttothedeltaicon .
Whenathermocoupleisconnectedtothe meterotheroperationalmodesarenotavailable.
5.6.1UsingtheTypeKThermometertosetEmissivity
1. MeasurethesurfaceoftheobjectundertestwiththeIRThermometer.
2. MeasurethesamesurfacewiththeTypeKthermocouplethermometer.
3. Notethedifference(delta)betweenthetworeadings.
4. NowadjusttheEmissivityintheProgrammingmenu(Section6)sothattheIR
thermometerreadingmatchestheTypeKthermometerreading.
5. Whenthisisaccomplishedtheemissivitysettingiscorrectforthesurfaceinquestion.
Thermocouplenotes:
Thesuppliedgeneralpurposethermocoupleisnotratedfortheentiremeasurement
rangeofthemeter.Thethermocouplecanbedamagediftemperatureoutsideits
specifiedrangeismeasured.Inallcases,pleaseuseathermocouplethatisratedforthe
intendedapplicationonly.Refertothespecificationssectionof
thisUserManualfor
metertemperatureandthermocoupletemperatureranges.
Theaccuracycharacteristicsofthethermocoupleprobeshouldbeaddedtotheaccuracy
specificationofthemeterwheninterpretingthermocouplereadings.

emissivityadjustmentprocedurein
