Overview

This document is the owner's manual for the Flotec Ready Reserve® Deluxe battery backup sump pump system, specifically models FP2000DCC and 2P667B. It provides comprehensive information on installation, operation, maintenance, and parts.

Function Description

The Flotec Ready Reserve® Deluxe is a battery-powered backup sump pump system designed to provide emergency pumping during power outages or primary sump pump failures. It is not intended as a substitute for a primary sump pump but rather as a temporary solution to prevent basement flooding when the main pump is inoperable. The system includes a 10-amp fully automatic charger that recharges the battery and powers the pump when AC power is available. An alarm system notifies the user of backup pump operation or charging issues.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Pump Type: Battery backup sump pump.
  • Power Source: 12-volt battery (not included, recommended 105-140 Amp Deep Cycle Marine Battery).
  • Charger: 10-amp fully automatic charger, 115-125 Volt AC input (requires at least 2 amps).
  • Maximum Vertical Pumping Distance: 15 feet (4.6 meters).
  • Capacity Ratings (Gallons Per Hour / Hours Available / Total Gallons Pumped):
    • At 5 feet vertical pumping distance: 1,170 GPH / 7.0 hours / 7,750 gallons.
    • At 10 feet vertical pumping distance: 768 GPH / 9.0 hours / 6,680 gallons.
    • At 15 feet vertical pumping distance: 120 GPH / 10.5 hours / 1,160 gallons.
  • Battery Box Dimensions (Maximum): 12-5/8" long x 7" wide x 9-3/8" high (320.7mm x 177.8mm x 238mm) including terminals.
  • Discharge Pipe Connection: 1-1/2" slip fit tee, with 1-1/4" bushings supplied for adaptability.
  • Float Switch: Automatic float switch, requires a minimum 2" (51mm) tether length.
  • Safety Features:
    • Ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) recommended for electrical appliances submerged in water.
    • Self-resetting circuit breaker in the charger for overload protection.
    • Alarm system for backup pump operation and charging issues.
    • Battery box for containing the battery and preventing accidental shorting.

Usage Features

  • Automatic Operation: The backup pump starts automatically when the sump water level rises high enough to trip the float switch.
  • Alarm System: An alarm sounds approximately 4 seconds after the pump starts. It can be silenced by pushing the ALARM TEST/RESET button. The alarm also sounds if the battery has not reached a satisfactory voltage after 24 hours of charging.
  • Alarm Test Function: The ALARM TEST/RESET button can be used to test the alarm at any time, even when it is not sounding.
  • Battery Charging: The automatic charger recharges the battery when AC power is available. It can run the pump and charge the battery simultaneously. A fully depleted battery can be recharged in about six hours after power is restored.
  • Charging Status Indicators: The charger panel displays the charging current (amps) and indicates when charging is complete via an LED lamp.
  • Temporary Battery Substitution: In emergencies, an automobile battery can be temporarily substituted if the system battery is depleted, though it is not recommended for regular use with this charger.
  • Installation Flexibility: The system is designed for integration with an existing primary sump pump, requiring a check valve on the main pump's discharge pipe to prevent recirculation.

Maintenance Features

  • Battery Maintenance (Every Three Months):
    • Unplug the battery charger.
    • Measure the specific gravity of the electrolyte (for batteries with removable top caps) using a hydrometer. Replace the battery if specific gravity is below 1.225 or if there's more than 0.050 variation between cells.
    • Check and refill electrolyte level as needed.
    • Check battery terminals and clamps for tightness and corrosion; clean and tighten as needed.
    • Plug in the battery charger.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual provides a detailed troubleshooting section for common issues such as the pump not running, motor hums but pump doesn't run, pump runs but pumps little or no water, pump cycles too frequently, and charging needle jumps to "CHARGING" and drops back quickly.
  • Fuse Replacement: The system includes a 15-amp time-delay fuse, with a spare supplied. Instructions are provided for checking and replacing the fuse in the switch circuit.
  • Impeller Obstruction: Instructions are given for checking and clearing obstructions from the pump impeller if the motor hums but the pump doesn't run.
  • Check Valve Maintenance: Emphasizes the importance of a properly installed and functioning check valve between the primary pump discharge and the backup sump pump tee to prevent recirculation.
