Instructions
Introduction
The 177X LTE module provides global LTE (4G)
communications and allows connections to Fluke 177X
products located remotely. The module requires a SIM card
and contract with a service provider that has coverage where
the instrument and module are located.
With this module you can wirelessly communicate from a
computer to the instrument. Communication can be through
a VNC (Virtual Network Connection) or through the Fluke
Energy Analyze Plus application package. With this remote
connection you do not have to frequently visit the site
location to observe how a site survey is progressing. All the
measured and logged data is available through the remote
connection.

Overview

The Fluke 177x LTE Module is an accessory designed to enhance the connectivity and remote management capabilities of Fluke 177X products. This module provides global LTE (4G) communications, enabling users to connect to their Fluke 177X instruments from remote locations. This functionality is particularly beneficial for professionals who need to monitor and manage their instruments without frequent on-site visits, thereby improving efficiency and reducing operational costs.

Function Description

The primary function of the 177x LTE Module is to establish a wireless communication link between a Fluke 177X product and a remote computer. This link facilitates two main types of remote interaction:

  • Virtual Network Connection (VNC): Users can establish a VNC to the instrument, allowing them to view and control the instrument's interface as if they were physically present. This is crucial for real-time monitoring, configuration adjustments, and troubleshooting from a distance.
  • Fluke Energy Analyze Plus Application Package: The module supports communication with the Fluke Energy Analyze Plus application. This software package is designed for detailed analysis of energy data, and with the LTE module, users can access and process logged data remotely. This means that all measured and logged data from the instrument is available for analysis without needing to physically retrieve the instrument or its data storage.

To operate, the module requires a SIM card and an active contract with a service provider that offers coverage in the area where the instrument and module are located. This ensures a reliable and secure wireless connection for data transmission. The module essentially transforms the Fluke 177X product into a connected device, capable of participating in remote monitoring and data acquisition networks. This is especially useful for long-term site surveys where continuous data collection is required, and periodic checks can be performed remotely.

Usage Features

The 177x LTE Module is designed for straightforward installation and integration with compatible Fluke 177X products.

  • Module Installation: The installation process involves opening a designated compartment on the Fluke 177X instrument, inserting the LTE module, and securing it. Visual instructions guide the user through the steps, which typically include removing a cover, inserting the module into its slot, and then re-securing the cover. This ensures a snug and reliable fit, protecting the module from environmental factors.
  • Antenna Attachment: The module requires an antenna for optimal signal reception. There are two main types of antenna attachments:
    • External Antenna with Cable: For environments where the instrument might be placed in a cabinet or a location with poor signal, an external antenna with a cable can be used. This antenna connects to the module via a cable, allowing the antenna to be positioned in a location with better signal reception. The external antenna connects to the module with an SMA connector. It is important to use Fluke-approved measurement category (CAT) antenna cables, especially when the product is installed in environments with hazardous live voltage, to prevent electrical shock or personal injury.
    • 177x Antenna: For more direct attachment, a compact antenna can be directly connected to the module. This type of antenna is suitable for situations where the instrument itself is in a location with good signal strength.
  • Remote Monitoring and Control: Once installed and connected, the module enables comprehensive remote interaction. Users can initiate VNC sessions to directly control the instrument, start or stop measurements, change settings, and view real-time readings. This eliminates the need for physical presence, saving time and resources, particularly in distant or difficult-to-access locations.
  • Data Access and Analysis: The module facilitates the remote download of logged data to the Fluke Energy Analyze Plus application. This allows for immediate analysis of power quality and energy consumption data, enabling quicker decision-making and response to potential issues. The ability to access all measured and logged data remotely ensures that site survey progress can be monitored without interruption.
  • Enhanced Safety: By enabling remote operation, the module contributes to user safety by reducing the need for personnel to be in potentially hazardous environments. Users can monitor and control the instrument from a safe distance, minimizing exposure to live voltage or other on-site risks.

Maintenance Features

While the 177x LTE Module itself is a robust accessory, proper care and adherence to safety guidelines are essential for its longevity and reliable operation.

  • Product Integrity: Users are advised not to alter the product and to use it only as specified. Any unauthorized modifications could compromise the protection supplied by the product and potentially lead to malfunction or safety hazards.
  • Troubleshooting and Repair: In case of incorrect operation or damage, users should disable the product and seek assistance from an approved technician. The module is designed to be repaired with specified replacement parts, ensuring that any repairs maintain the product's original safety and performance standards. Fluke provides contact information for support and repair services, emphasizing the importance of professional intervention for complex issues.
  • Documentation and Support: Fluke provides comprehensive user documentation, including manuals and supplements, which are accessible online. This documentation contains important safety information, installation instructions, and operational guidelines. Users are encouraged to consult these resources for any questions regarding the module's use or maintenance. Product registration is also available, which can facilitate support and warranty claims.
  • Warranty Information: The module is covered by a limited warranty, typically for a period of two years from the date of purchase, against defects in material and workmanship. This warranty ensures that users are protected against manufacturing faults. However, it does not cover damage resulting from accident, neglect, misuse, alteration, contamination, or abnormal operating conditions. For warranty service, users are directed to contact an authorized Fluke service center to obtain return authorization information.
  • Regulatory Compliance: The module is designed to comply with various international regulatory standards, including those for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and radio equipment directives. This ensures that the module operates safely and does not interfere with other electronic devices. Adherence to these standards is a key aspect of the product's design and ongoing maintenance.
  • Environmental Responsibility: The product complies with WEEE Directive marking requirements, indicating that it should not be discarded with domestic household waste. This promotes environmentally responsible disposal and recycling of electronic components.

In summary, the Fluke 177x LTE Module is a valuable addition to the Fluke 177X product line, offering enhanced connectivity, remote management, and improved operational efficiency for professionals engaged in power quality and energy analysis. Its design emphasizes ease of use, robust performance, and adherence to safety and environmental standards.
