4. Operation
Preparation of the vehicle
1. Check if the vehicle’s headlights are clean and dry
2. If the vehicle is equipped with a headlight aligner, set it on”0”.
3. Straighten the front wheels and check if all 4 tires have the correct tire pressure.
4. Place a weight of 70kg on one of the front seats.
5. Start the vehicle’s engine, if the vehicle is equipped with pneumatic suspension, the car has
to be started 5 minutes in advance. CAUTION! Provide an adequate exhaust system for the
exhaust gas in your workshop. Accidental inhalation of carbon monoxide can cause serious
health problems!
Positioning and adjusting the headlight tester
6. Position the headlight tester at approximately 20cm from the vehicle’s right headlight.
7. Measure the height from the floor to the middle of the headlight.
8. Now place the optical chamber at the same height, the top of the sliding runner (1, fig.4) is
the reference point for the height on the meter on the column.
9. Check if the optical chamber is level by watching the level on the inside. If it is not perfectly
horizontal, loosen the lever (4, fig.4), now you can move the optical chamber up or down as
needed.
10. Align the device with the car by using the mirror, use the top of the windshield or headlights
for reference, they should be exactly aligned with the black line on the mirror. If this is not
the case, maneuver the device until they are aligned.
Checking the light image
11. Now check the light image, which is projected on the inside of the optical chamber. On the
next page examples are given of how a good light image looks.
