A. Thisapplianceisequippedwithanigni-
tiondevicewhichautomaticallylights
thepilot.Donotlightpilotbyhand.
B. BEFORE LIGHTING smell all around
the appliance area for gas. Be sure to
smellnexttotheoorbecausesome
gasisheavierthanairandwillsettle
ontheoor.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU SMELL GAS
•Donottrytolightanyappliance.
•Donottouchanyelectricswitch;do
notuseanyphoneinyourbuilding.
•Immediately call your gas supplier
fromaneighbor'sphone.Followthe
gassupplier'sinstructions.
C. Do not use this appliance if any part
hasbeenunderwater.Immediatelycall
aqualiedservicetechniciantoinspect
the appliance and to replace any part of
thecontrolsystemandanygascontrol
whichhasbeenunderwater.

INSTRUCTIONS
NOTICE: During initial operation
of new replace, burning logs
will give off a paper-burning
smell. Orange ame will also
be present. Open damper or
windowtoventsmell.Thiswill
onlylastafewhours.
1. STOP! Read the safety information above.
2. Turn off all electric power to replace.
3. Turn safety shutoff switch to the OFF posi-
tion or press OFF on hand-held remote.
4. Fully open glass doors, if installed.
5. Remove center brick/control cover.
6. Turn equipment shutoff valve clockwise
to the OFF position (see Figure
41). Do not force.
7. Wait ve (5) minutes to clear out any gas.
Then smell for gas, including near the
oor. If you smell gas, STOP! Follow “B”
in the safety information, in column 1. If
you don't smell gas, go to the next step.
8. Turn equipment shutoff valve counter-
clockwise to the ON position. Do
not force.
9. Center brick/control cover.
10. Fully close glass doors, if installed.
11. Turn on all electric power to appliance.
12. Turn safety shutoff switch to the ON po-
sition or press ON on hand-held remote.
13. Visually locate pilot. Ignitor should begin
to spark and main burner should ignite
once ame appears at pilot.
• If lighting appliance for the rst time each
season, it may take several attempts
before supply gas can reach pilot and
main burners.
• If appliance will not stay lit after several
attempts, follow instructions under To
Turn Off Gas To Appliance and call your
service technician or gas supplier.
TO TURN OFF GAS
TO APPLIANCE
1. Turn off safety shutoff switch.
2. Turn off all electric power to appliance if
service is to be performed.
3. Remove center brick/control cover.
4. Turn equipment shutoff valve clockwise
to OFF. Do not force.
5. Replace center brick/control cover.
