DIESEL ENGINE SYSTEM
The most common cause of trouble with a diesel engine is
contaminated or dirty fuel. Your boat is equipped with a primary
fuel filter located in the engine compartment and a secondary
filter on the engine. The wise skipper carries replacement
filter cartridges.
Familiarize yourself with the bleeding procedure for the
engine and try bleeding it yourself. The procedure only takes five
minutes after you are aquainted with what to do, but can be exasperating
to the uninitiated.
As with any engine, do not shift from forward to reverse at
high engine RPM. Keep engine gear shift lever in "Reverse"
position while sailing. The engine manufacturer's owner's manual
contains a wealth of information about the engine. Take time to
read the manual BEFORE you need the information due to a
malfunction.
