LIGHTNING PROTECTION
6.4
The masts are grounded to the keel and engine in accordance with
industry practice. In spite of this grounding, there can be no
assurance that personnel or the boat will not suffer injury if the
vessel is hit by lightning.
The following are adapted from the ABYC safety standards, are
suggestions only, and in no way guarantee safety.
1.
If possible, remain inside a closed boat during a lightning
storm. Do not contact any metallic objects inside the
vessel.
2.
Avoid making contact with any items connected to the light-
ning conductive system ( mast step support, etc.) and espe-
cially in a way to bridge between two of them.
3.
No one should be in the water during a lightning storm.
4. If the boat has been struck by lightning, compasses and
electrical gear should be checked to determine that no
damage or change in calibration has taken place.
