Make sure that the boat is adequately supported and that any
suspected weakness has been reinforced. The keel of the boat must
rest solidly on the main beam. The vertical risers are not intended
to carry the load, merely to stabilize the boat.
Storing of Masts
While carbon fiber spars are exceedingly strong along their
long axis, they can be damaged by crushing of the tubular section.
Always store masts on well padded supports and do not place any weight
on top of the mast(s).Do not use tape directly on the mast surface, or
the paint may lift when the tape is removed. Plastic coverings can
also abrade the paint coating and should be avoided. There is no
harm in leaving carbon fiber spars installed in the boat through
the winter providing the boat hull is adequately supported and a
large build up of ice does not occur on the spar.
