Overview

This document is a user manual for the Frigoglass ISLIM [R600a] Ice Cold Merchandiser (ICM), a commercial refrigeration unit. It provides comprehensive instructions for installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and disposal, emphasizing safety and environmental considerations.

Function Description

The Frigoglass ISLIM [R600a] is an Ice Cold Merchandiser designed to cool and display beverages. Its primary function is to keep products cold, thereby increasing sales and profits for businesses. It uses HC (hydrocarbon) refrigerant, which has been tested and proven safe according to relevant standards. The unit is intended for commercial use and is not suitable for storing food or explosive substances.

Usage Features

The manual outlines several usage features and recommendations for optimal performance and energy saving:

  • Placement: The ICM must be installed on a stable, level surface/floor. It has four adjustable feet for proper leveling. A slight inclination towards the back is recommended to facilitate fluid circulation and door closing. A minimum gap of 100mm at the back is required for ventilation. The unit should not be placed in direct sunlight, near heat sources, outdoors without proper protection, or in extreme environmental conditions (e.g., extensive exposure to saline humidity). Nothing should be placed on top of the ICM.
  • Connection to Mains Supply: The merchandiser must be connected to a grounded mains outlet with a fuse rating of 10A-16A. The outlet should be easily accessible. Extension cables are not recommended. The unit should not be connected to non-grounded sockets, improper voltage/frequency supplies, or multiple outlet strips. The mains cord should be routed to prevent damage and tripping hazards.
  • Initial Start-up: After transportation, the merchandiser must stand upright for at least 1 hour before start-up to allow oil to return to the compressor.
  • Loading: Load the ICM at night so that drinks are cold by morning. Store back-up stock in a cool, dark place to reduce cooling time when reloading. Wipe moisture off products before placing them in the ICM.
  • Door Management: Avoid opening the door for long periods to conserve energy.
  • Safety: Do not use mechanical devices or means other than those recommended by the manufacturer to accelerate defrosting. Do not damage the refrigerant circuit. Do not use electrical appliances inside the food storage compartments unless recommended by the manufacturer. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by authorized personnel. The appliance is not intended for use by young children or infirm persons without adequate supervision. Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance. Do not operate the appliance with any cover sheets or guards open.

Maintenance Features

The manual provides detailed guidelines for care and cleaning, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting, with a strong emphasis on authorized service personnel for certain tasks.

General Care & Cleaning:

  • Frequency: The merchandiser should be cleaned twice a year. Product compartments should be thoroughly cleaned to prevent mold and odors.
  • Procedure: Unplug the ICM before any cleaning procedure. Clean the interior with a mildly soapy cloth and glass surfaces with a window-cleaning agent. Never use a water hose or high-pressure jet.
  • Condenser Cleaning: If the merchandiser is in a dusty or greasy environment, regular cleaning of the condenser by an authorized technician is mandatory.
  • Safety during Cleaning: Keep the cooler in a stable position, do not step on or lean over it. Do not clean with sharp objects, flammable, or corrosive liquids or sprays.

Preventive Maintenance (for Authorized Service Personnel):

  • Pre-maintenance Safety: Always unplug the ICM before any maintenance. Ensure the operator can verify the cable is unplugged from all access points.
  • Mechanical System Checks:
    • Verify correct positioning and leveling of the equipment.
    • Check that front and back grids are fixed.
    • Inspect the self-closing system of the door.
    • Ensure fan support and fan grid are fixed.
    • Check and unclog the draining system if necessary.
  • Electrical System Checks:
    • Inspect the power cable (replace if needed).
    • Check the illumination system.
    • Verify electrical connections.
    • Ensure the electrical box cover of the thermostat or electronic controller is properly installed.
    • Confirm that any replaced components are original.
  • Refrigeration System Checks:
    • Verify proper compressor function.
    • Check the starting relay, overload, and capacitor. The supplier recommends replacing these every 3-4 years.
    • Inspect the fan motor condenser and fan motor evaporator.
    • Verify proper function of the thermostat or electronic controller and their components.
    • Check the cooling performance of the ICM.
    • Use an appropriate leak detector to check the cooling circuit if a refrigerant leak is suspected.
  • Post-maintenance Safety: After maintenance, ensure grounding connections are in place before reassembling covers. Use original fastening components. If electrical components are replaced, use identical parts from the Frigoglass spare part list. Keep the glass door closed during cooling mechanism maintenance. If the compressor is disassembled or replaced, use adequate support to stabilize the cooler. Ensure the strain relief supporting the supply cord is properly assembled.

Troubleshooting:

The manual includes a troubleshooting table for common issues like the ICM not working, not cooling, making noise, water on the floor, or lights not working, along with possible reasons and handling instructions. For persistent problems, users are advised to contact customer service with the ICM type, serial number, and a brief description of the issue.

First Aid:

In case of accidents involving refrigerant inhalation, eye contact, or skin contact, immediate actions are provided (e.g., fresh air, rinsing with water, consulting a doctor).

Disposal and Recycling:

  • End of Life (EOL): If the appliance is irreparable or non-reusable, it should not be disposed of as unsorted municipal waste. It must be collected separately by a recycling company according to European Community (EC) WEEE Directives.
  • Packaging: Packaging materials (wooden pallets, cardboard, plastic parts, stretch film) can be recycled at local facilities or reused for energy recovery.
  • Recyclability: Do not dismantle or break parts off the appliance prior to collection to maintain its recyclability rate.
  • Symbol: The crossed-out wheeled bin symbol on the product label indicates the need for separate collection of electrical and electronic equipment.

Warranty:

The appliance is covered by a warranty as agreed upon at the time of sale.
