Charging a deep-
discharge battery
Trickle charging
Back-up mode
If there is nothing on the charger display during test mode, the battery is in deep dischar-
ge. The charger charges deep-discharge batteries by gentle pulses over a long period.
Disconnect battery from vehicle power supply/consumers before charging.
Important! Only reconnect the battery to the vehicle power supply after:
- the battery has been charging for at least one hour
- the battery is at least 50% charged (2 bars)
With trickle charging, consumer loads (e.g. car radio) may be used during the charging
process. Note that
- the power used over a long period is less than the charging current
- the charging period is extended and the safety cut-out might therefore be activated.
Whilst a battery is being changed, the charger powers the in-car electronics. Any saved
data (e.g. car radio code, seat settings, etc.) are retained. To operate the charger in
back-up mode, proceed as follows:
1. Switch off engine and ignition, shed all loads
2. Switch on an interior lamp (approx. 2-15 W)
3. Set selector switch to correct position
3. Connect charger lead to the correct vehicle pole terminals
5. Connect charger to mains supply
Important ! Risk of short circuiting! In the next step, the vehicle pole terminals must not
touch one another.
6. Loosen vehicle pole terminals carefully from the battery poles
7. Charger supplies the in-car electronics
8. Change battery
9. Connect vehicle pole terminals to correct poles of the new battery
10. Unplug the charger from the mains
11. Remove charger lead from the vehicle pole terminals
