Wirefeed speed or burn-back time are not set to
optimum values
Correct the wirefeed speed and burn-back time.
Arc does not ignite after torch trigger is
pressed
Mains switch is ON, “Ready” indicator is lit
up, wirefeeder is running
One mains phase has been interrupted Change the mains fuse; check the plug, plug-
socket and mains cable
Wire electrode sticks to the contact tube or
weld pool
Select another operating modeOperating-mode selector switch is on “Wire inch-
ing”
TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
Warning! Before opening up the welding machine, switch it off, unplug it from the mains and put up a warning sign to stop anybody inadvertently
switching it back on again. If necessary, discharge the electrolytic capacitors.
Fault Cause Remedy
Replace the control cable or torch switch
Machine does not function after torch
trigger is pressed
Mains switch is ON, “Ready” indicator is lit up
Control cable or torch switch is faulty
Replace the fuse as per printed label
Unsteady arc, heavy spattering, weld-metal
pores
Machine is overloaded, thermostat has cut out,
“Malfunction” indicator is lit up
Poor earth connection
Ensure correct relationship between welding
voltage and wirefeed speed
Ensure good contact between earthing clamp
and workpiece - use a new earthing cable if
necessary
Allow the machine to cool down - do not exceed
the duty cycle
Operating point has not been set to optimum value
Check mains fuses and mains socket and plugs,
measure the voltage at the main contactor (power-
source), if necessary change the contactor
No shielding gas Check the pressure regulator, gas hose, gas
solenoid valve, torch connection etc.
Contact tube is too large, or its bore is worn Change the contact tube
A phase is missing from the mains
Irregular wirefeed speed
Braking force is set too high Loosen the pressure screw
Wirefeed inner liner in the welding torch is defective Check the wire inner liner for kinks, dirt, correct
inside diameter and length etc.
Screw in the right contact tube for the diameter
of wire in question
Incorrect contact pressure in the drive system Optimise the contact pressure
Change the welding wireWelding wire is not OK
Wire infeed into the torch is not set to optimum
settings
Incorrect drive rollers Tool up the 2-roller drive correctly
Wirefeed speed is impossible to regulate -
wirefeeder motor is not running
Wirefeed-speed dial is faulty Change the MR25A
Control system is faulty Change the MR25A control
Contact tube is too narrow
Correct the wire infeed
Torch is not tooled up correctly Tool up the welding torch correctly
Replace the wirefeeder motorWirefeeder motor is faulty
Fuse for auxiliary transformer is faulty
Plug the torch-control plug into the torch-control
socket
Torch-control plug is not plugged in
Choose a suitable operating modeOperating-mode selector switch is set to intermittent
2-step or 4-step mode
Pre-set wirefeed speed cannot be reached Soft-start option is not fitted and the soft-start dial is
not set to 100%
Set the soft-start dial to100%
