1.2.1 Setting up a static private network
Once the receiver is connected to the computer, their network addressing settings
must be configured manually (i.e. not using DHCP) so that they can communicate.
When changing your computer’s networking configuration, write down the
existing settings before you change them, so you may change them back when
you have finished upgrading the receiver
Follow the steps shown for the operating system your computer uses.
Microsoft Windows XP / 2000
 Click on the Start button and select Control Panel
 Select Network and Internet Connections
 Double-click on the Network Connections icon
 Double-click on the Local Area Connection icon
 Click on the Properties button
 Click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
 Click on the Properties button
 On the General tab, click on Use the following IP address
 Change the IP address to 169.254.1.3
 Change the Subnet Mask to 255.255.0.0
 Change the Default Gateway to 192.168.1.101
 Make sure the two DNS settings boxes are blank
 Close all the windows
Microsoft Windows 7 / Vista
 Click on the Start Menu and select Control Panel
 Select Network and Sharing Center
 Choose the Change adapter settings link on the left hand panel
 Double-click on the Local Area Connection icon
 Click on the Properties button
 Click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
 Click on Properties
 On the General tab, click on Use the following address
 Change the IP address to 169.254.1.3
 Change the Subnet Mask to 255.255.0.0
 Change the Default Gateway to 169.254.1.3
 Make sure the two DNS settings boxes are blank
 Close all the windows
Mac OS X
 Run System Preferences / Network
 Select the Ethernet option in the panel on the left
 Click on the padlock so that you can make changes (you may need to provide
your login password)
 Click on the Configure IPv4: drop-down and select Manually
 Change the IP address to 169.254.1.3
 Change the Subnet Mask to 255.255.0.0
 Change the Router to 169.254.1.3
 Make sure the DNS Server and Search Domains boxes are blank
