This document provides operating instructions for the Glow-worm Easicom 3 24c and 28c models, which are intended as heat generators for closed central heating installations and for hot water generation. The product is designed for natural gas systems.
The Easicom 3 is a heat generator that provides both central heating and hot water. It operates by burning natural gas to heat water, which is then circulated through the heating system or supplied as hot water. The product features a display that shows operating information, active operating modes, current heating flow temperature, filling pressure, and fault codes. It includes a timer function to control heating mode intervals, allowing users to set specific times for the heating to be switched on or off. The product also has a frost protection function that automatically activates the boiler and pump when the heating circuit reaches a protection temperature of 12 °C, and continues to operate until the burner anti-cycling temperature of 35 °C is reached. This ensures the heating installation remains operational during freezing conditions.
The Easicom 3 offers several user-friendly features for controlling heating and hot water.
Starting Up: To start the product, users need to ensure the gas isolator cock, stop cocks in the heating installation's flow and return, and the cold water stop cock are fully open. The product is then switched on by pressing a designated button, and the "Basic display" will appear.
Operating Modes: Users can select from various operating modes: "Heating + hot water," "Heating only," "Hot water only," or "No requirement." These modes are selected by repeatedly pressing the mode button until the desired option is displayed.
Temperature Settings:
Timer Function: The product includes a mechanical timer with a 24-hour dial. Users can set heating intervals by sliding pins outwards for "on" periods and inwards for "off" periods. A selection switch allows users to choose between heating mode permanently switched off, heating mode intervals according to the timer, or heating mode permanently switched on.
Standby Mode: The product can be switched to standby mode by pressing the power button for less than three seconds. In standby mode, the display shows "OFF" and goes out, but the product's frost protection function remains active, and the main power supply is not interrupted.
System Pressure Check: Users should check the central heating system pressure once a month. The display shows the filling pressure, which should be between 0.1 MPa and 0.15 MPa (1.0 bar and 1.5 bar). If the pressure is too low, water needs to be added to the heating installation.
Filling the Heating Installation: When filling the heating installation, all radiator valves should be open. The filling cock, as shown by a competent person, should be slowly opened until the required filling pressure is reached, then closed. It is crucial to use suitable heating water to prevent material damage from calciferous, corrosive, or chemically contaminated water.
Proper maintenance is essential for the safe and reliable operation of the Easicom 3.
Annual Inspection: An annual inspection by a competent person is required to ensure the product remains safe, reliable, and has a long working life. After servicing, the relevant service interval record section of the Benchmark checklist should be completed.
Cleaning: The casing of the product should be cleaned with a damp cloth and a little solvent-free soap. It is important not to use sprays, scouring agents, detergents, solvents, or cleaning agents that contain chlorine, as these can cause material damage.
Condensate Drain Pipework and Tundish Check: The condensate drain pipework and tundish must always be penetrable. Users should regularly check for faults and blockages. If any obstructions or faults are noticed, a competent person must rectify them.
Frost Protection: Beyond the automatic frost protection function, if users are away from home for a prolonged period without a controller, they should switch the product to standby mode. If a controller is present, the number of days away can be programmed to activate the frost protection devices. For extended absences, a qualified competent person should completely drain the system or add a special frost protection agent to the heating circuit.
Troubleshooting: The manual includes a troubleshooting section to help users detect and rectify common faults. This section provides a table with fault descriptions, possible causes, and measures to take. If problems persist after performing the self-checks, users should contact a competent person. Fault codes (e.g., F.xx) displayed on the unit indicate specific issues and require contacting a competent person.
Decommissioning:
Recycling and Disposal: The installer is responsible for the disposal of packaging. The product itself, if marked with the appropriate symbol, should not be disposed of with household waste but handed in to a collection centre for old electrical or electronic appliances. If the product contains batteries marked with the symbol, these batteries should be disposed of at a collection point for batteries.
