Overview

The GoodWe SDT Series Solar Inverter is a device designed for grid-tied photovoltaic systems, converting DC power from solar panels into AC power for household or grid use. It is available in various power outputs, including SDT4-6KW, SDT8-15KW, GW4K-DT, GW5K-DT, GW6K-DT, GW8K-DT, GW10K-DT, GW12K-DT, and GW15K-DT models.

Function Description:

The inverter's primary function is to convert direct current (DC) generated by photovoltaic (PV) panels into alternating current (AC) that can be fed into the utility grid. It features multiple maximum power point trackers (MPPTs) to optimize energy harvesting from different PV strings, even under varying sunlight conditions. The SDT series includes integrated protection mechanisms such as anti-islanding, input reverse polarity protection, insulation monitoring, DC and AC surge protection (Type III), residual current monitoring, AC overcurrent protection, AC short protection, and AC overvoltage protection, ensuring safe and reliable operation. Some models also support DRED (Demand Response Enabling Device) functionality, particularly for Australia and New Zealand, allowing for remote shutdown and power limiting in response to grid demands. Wi-Fi communication is an optional feature, enabling remote monitoring and configuration via the SEMS Portal app and website.

    • User Interface: LED or LCD.
    • Communication: WiFi or LAN (Optional), GPRS or LAN (Optional) for higher power models.
    • Protection Degree: IP65.
    • Topology: Transformerless.

Usage Features:

  • Installation:

    • Mounting: The inverter should be installed in a well-ventilated area, sheltered from direct sunlight, rain, and snow, with an ambient temperature below 45°C. Clearances of at least 500mm above and below, 200mm on sides, and 300mm in front are required for heat dissipation and maintenance. It must be mounted vertically or with a backward tilt less than 15 degrees, with the connection area pointing downwards.
    • Electrical Connection: Requires careful connection of AC and DC sides. An independent two-pole circuit breaker is recommended on the AC side, with specifications varying by inverter model (e.g., 16A for GW4K-DT, 32A for GW12K-DT/GW15K-DT). The PE line must be properly earthed. DC connections require correct polarity and the use of provided connectors, ensuring the PV string open circuit voltage does not exceed the inverter's maximum input voltage.
    • Earth Terminal Connection: A dedicated earth terminal is provided and must be connected to an earthing wire according to EN 50178.
    • Wi-Fi Communication: For Wi-Fi models, configuration allows for remote monitoring and data upload to the GoodWe PV station.
    • Power Limiting Device & DRED Installation: Supports connection of a power limiting device (meter) and DRED functionality (for Australia/New Zealand) via specific pin connections, allowing for remote shutdown or power limitation.
  • System Operation:

    • Indicator Lights: Yellow, Green, and Red LEDs indicate various statuses such as Wi-Fi connection, power feeding, and faults.
    • User Interface and Display: An LCD display provides real-time information on operation parameters, power generation status, and error messages. It features a two-level menu system accessible via short and long presses of a button. Users can view daily and total energy generation, PV voltage/current, grid voltage/current/frequency, and error history.
    • Configuration: The display allows setting safety country, language, time, and activating/deactivating functions like Shadow MPPT (for optimizing performance in shaded conditions) and Power Limiting. Power limiting requires a password ("1111" for Australian security regulations) to prevent unauthorized changes.
    • Error Messages: The LCD displays specific error messages (e.g., Fac Fail, Isolation Fail, Vac Fail, PV Over Voltage, Over Temperature, Utility Loss) to indicate system faults, aiding in troubleshooting.
    • Wi-Fi Reset & Reload: Functions are available to reset Wi-Fi configuration to default or reload settings, useful for troubleshooting communication issues.
    • Special Adjustable Setpoints: The inverter has field-adjustable functions for trip points, trip times, reconnect times, and QU/PU curve settings, which can be configured via special software available from GoodWe after-sales support.

Maintenance Features:

  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide, listing common error messages (e.g., Isolation Fail, Ground I Fail, Vac Fail, Fac Fail, Utility Loss, PV Over Voltage, Over Temperature, Relay-Check Fail, DCI High, EEPROM R/W Fail, SPI Fail, DC Bus High, GFCI Fail) and their corresponding solutions. These solutions often involve checking connections, insulation, voltages, and environmental factors.
  • Regular Maintenance: Regular maintenance is crucial for ensuring a long operating life and optimal efficiency of the PV plant.
  • Safety Precautions for Maintenance: Before performing any maintenance, it is imperative to disconnect the AC breaker first, then the DC breaker, and wait at least 5 minutes for any residual voltage to drain, ensuring the inverter is completely isolated and safe to handle.
  • Earth Fault Alarm: The inverter complies with IEC62109-2 and will indicate an earth fault with a lit LED and an audible buzzer (for non-Wi-Fi models) for 1 minute, repeating after half an hour until the fault is resolved (available for Australia/New Zealand).
  • Self-Correction: In cases of insufficient sunlight, the PV inverter may automatically start up and shut down without causing damage, indicating a self-correcting mechanism for minor power fluctuations.
