This document is a user manual for the GOTRAX GKS Kids Electric Scooter. It provides essential information for assembling, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting the scooter.
Function Description
The GOTRAX GKS is a kids' electric scooter designed for recreational use. It features an electric motor that assists in propulsion, allowing children to ride with less effort than a traditional kick scooter. The scooter is partially assembled upon arrival and requires some final assembly steps before use. It is designed for children aged 8 and above, with a maximum load rating of 121 lbs (55 kg) and a maximum speed of 7.5 mph. The scooter is not waterproof, and riding in wet conditions is discouraged due to potential damage to electronics and safety risks.
Usage Features
To power on the scooter, the rider must place one foot on the front button and kick to start. To accelerate, the rider places their first foot on the front button and kicks to get the scooter moving. Once moving, the second foot is placed on the back button to engage the electric motor for acceleration. If the rider wishes to stop accelerating, they should remove their foot from the back button, which will turn off the motor. Braking is achieved by removing the back foot from the back button and placing it on the rear fender brake to slow down or stop. The scooter performs best on smooth surfaces such as carparks, smooth roads, footpaths, and bike lanes. Riders are advised to be aware of the terrain and watch out for curbs and obstacles. Parental permission is required for riders under 18 years of age.
Safety Guidelines:
- Helmet Use: Always wear a helmet when riding the electric scooter.
- Battery Check: Ensure the scooter has a full battery before riding.
- Road Laws: Be aware of and follow local road laws.
- Substance Use: Do not ride the scooter under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
- Pedestrian Respect: Always respect pedestrians.
- Wet Conditions: Avoid riding in wet conditions, as this can cause the scooter to slide, leading to injury, and may damage electronics, voiding the warranty.
- Water Exposure: The scooter is not waterproof. Water damage is not covered by the warranty.
- Abuse: Physical damage due to negligent care or extreme riding is not covered.
- Injury Risk: Riding the scooter carries a risk of severe injury or death from loss of control, collisions, and falls. Riders should use caution and ride at their own risk.
- Modifications: Do not modify the product from its original design.
- Moving Parts: Keep hands and all body parts away from moving parts during operation.
- Pre-Ride Checks: Before each ride, check that the scooter is operating correctly, the braking system is functioning properly, all safety labels are in place and understood, and all axle guards, chain guards, or other covers are in place and in serviceable condition.
- Tire Condition: Ensure tires are in good condition, properly inflated, and have sufficient tread.
- Age Restriction: The electric scooter should never be used by children under the age of 8.
Assembly Features
The scooter comes partially assembled. The assembly process involves three main steps:
- Assemble Front and Rear Wheel Compartments: The front and rear wheel compartments are joined together using 4 screws and a 5mm Allen wrench. After tightening, the kickstand should be opened, and the scooter straightened.
- Insert Tiller into Head Tube: The tiller component is inserted into the head tube and tightened with a 4mm Allen wrench.
- Attach Handlebar: Screws are removed from the block on top of the tiller using a 4mm Allen wrench. The handlebar is then placed on, covered with the top block, and the screws are tightened. After assembly, the scooter should be tested.
Charging Features
Before initial use, the battery must be fully charged.
- Open the rubber charging port cover.
- Insert the charging plug into the port.
- The charger box will display a red light when charging and a green light when fully charged.
- After charging, cover the charging port to protect it from dust and debris.
- Charging Time: Approximately 7 hours.
Only the approved Gotrax power adapter should be used for charging to avoid fire risks and equipment damage.
Maintenance Features
Regular cleaning and maintenance can extend the scooter's life.
- Cleaning: If the scooter surface is dirty, wipe it clean with a soft cloth. Do not use alcohol, gasoline, kerosene, or other corrosive chemical solvents, as these can damage the scooter's appearance and structure. Avoid using a pressure washer, as it may damage the electronics.
- Storage: Store the scooter in a dry and cool location when not in use. Avoid outdoor storage, as sun exposure can damage its appearance and reduce the life of the battery and tires.
- Battery Storage: Store the scooter and power adapter in conditions that do not exceed 122 degrees Fahrenheit or fall below -4 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Battery Disposal: Improper disposal of used batteries can pollute the environment. Riders should comply with local disposal regulations.
- Fire Risk Warning: The scooter contains no user-serviceable parts. Prolonged exposure to UV rays, rain, and other elements can damage the enclosed materials. Store indoors when not in use.
