Overview

The Graupner GR-12L HoTT (No. S1012) is a 6-channel 2.4 GHz HoTT receiver designed for remote control models without passengers. This manual provides comprehensive instructions for its safe operation, installation, and maintenance.

Function Description:

The GR-12L HoTT receiver serves as a crucial component in a remote control system, receiving signals from a compatible Graupner HoTT transmitter and translating them into commands for various RC components such as servos, speed controllers, and telemetry sensors. It operates on the 2.4 GHz FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) modulation, ensuring reliable and interference-resistant communication. The receiver supports up to six control channels, allowing for complex model control.

A key feature of the HoTT system is its integrated telemetry capabilities. The receiver can monitor and transmit various data back to the transmitter, including receiver voltage ("ALARM VOLT") and receiver temperature ("ALARM TEMP"). This real-time feedback enhances safety and allows for proactive adjustments during operation. The receiver also supports different sum signal formats like SUMD, SBUS, and SP2048 on channel 6, which are useful for connecting flight controllers or other advanced systems.

The receiver includes a "Binding" process to establish a secure connection with a specific model memory in a Graupner HoTT transmitter. This ensures that the receiver only responds to commands from its designated transmitter. A "Receiver Reset" function is available to restore factory settings, which is particularly useful when switching the receiver to a different model or troubleshooting.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Antenna: 1 x wire 145 mm (30 mm antenna length)
  • Operating Voltage: (2.5) 3.6 ... 8.4V
  • Frequency Range: 2400 ... 2483.5 MHz
  • Modulation: 2.4GHz FHSS
  • Number of Controls: 6
  • Current Consumption (approx.): 70mAh
  • Temperature Range: -15 ... +70°C
  • Dimensions (approx.): 36 x 21 x 10mm
  • Weight (approx.): 7g
  • CH5 Functionality: SERVO and updates / SENSOR / BATT-V
  • CH6 Functionality: SERVO / SUMD / SBUS / SP2048

The "ALARM VOLT" feature allows setting a voltage limit between 2.5 and 22.5 Volts (in 0.1 Volt steps). If the voltage drops below this limit, an acoustic alarm is triggered on the transmitter. Similarly, "ALARM TEMP" monitors receiver temperature, with an adjustable range of 30 to 80°C, triggering a continuous beep if exceeded. The "PERIOD" setting allows specifying channel pulse periods (frame rate) as either 10ms (for digital servos) or 20ms (for analog or mixed servo setups).

Usage Features:

The GR-12L HoTT receiver offers several user-configurable settings accessible via a compatible HoTT transmitter or the SMART-BOX, typically through a "Telemetry" menu. These settings include:

  • Receiver Settings:

    • ALARM VOLT: Configures the low voltage alarm threshold for either receiver operating voltage or drive battery voltage (if "BATT-V" is selected for CH5).
    • ALARM TEMP: Sets the high-temperature alarm threshold for the receiver.
    • PERIOD: Adjusts the pulse period for all control channels, with options for 10ms (digital servos) or 20ms (analog/mixed servos).
    • CH5 FUNCTION: Defines the function of channel 5, allowing it to be used for servos, telemetry sensors, or direct battery voltage monitoring (BATT-V).
    • CH6 FUNCTION: Defines the function of channel 6, allowing it to be used for servos, SUMD, SBUS, or SP2048 sum signals.
    • RSSI CH: When a sum signal is selected for CH6, this option allows replacing the highest-numbered servo channel with an RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) signal, which can be displayed on OSDs or monitors.
    • F.RESET: Performs a factory reset of the receiver settings.
  • Mixer Settings ("MIXER"): Up to five mixers can be programmed within the receiver. Each mixer allows configuring:

    • MASTER CH: Selects the source channel for the mix (CH1 to CH6).
    • SLAVE CH: Selects the target channel to which the master channel's signal is proportionally mixed (CH1 to CH6).
    • TRIM: Adjusts the neutral position of the mixer within a ±30% range.
    • TRAVEL -/+: Specifies the percentage of mixing for both directions relative to the master signal.
  • Channel Reverse ("CH REVERSE"): Allows individual reversal of the rotation direction for each servo connected to outputs 1 through 6.

Firmware Update:

Firmware updates for the receiver are performed via the telemetry port using a PC running Windows 7-10, a USB interface (No. 7168.6), and an adapter lead (No. 7168.6A or 7168.S). The necessary programs and files are available on the Graupner website (www.graupner.de). During the update process, the connection for the update must be set to "SERVO."

Maintenance Features:

The GR-12L HoTT receiver is designed to be maintenance-free. However, it is essential to protect it from dust, dirt, and moisture. Cleaning should only be done with a dry cloth, avoiding detergents. Proper installation also contributes to longevity, requiring protection from exhaust gases, splash water, excessive airtightness (to prevent overheating), and ensuring servo cables are not wound around or directly adjacent to antennas. In carbon fiber fuselages, at least the last 35 mm of the antennas must be routed outside the fuselage.

Safety Notes:

The manual emphasizes several critical safety notes:

  • Always perform a range and function test on the ground before flying.
  • Ensure all plug-in connections are tight and use only original Graupner components.
  • Protect the receiver from dust, dirt, moisture, foreign parts, vibration, and extreme temperatures.
  • Never connect a power supply exceeding 8.4V directly to the receiver's connection port, as this will destroy the device.
  • When handling batteries, protect them from dust, dirt, moisture, heat, and vibrations. Do not use damaged batteries, heat, burn, or short-circuit them. Dispose of batteries properly.

The GR-12L HoTT receiver is not a toy and is intended for experienced modelers (14 years and older). It complies with national and European legal requirements (Directive 2014/53/EU).
