Adjusting Tracking
1. Park unit safely. See Using the Parking
Brake on page 13.
2. Start and run engine until it reaches
normal operating temperature.
3. Move unit to an open area for operation.
4. Mark position of speed control/safety bar
on side of bracket.
5. Loosen lever (A). Move speed
control/safety bar (B) to a point midway
between the control panel and the
control levers and tighten lever (A).
6. Drive unit forward, pushing both control
levers all the way to safety bar.
7. Check unit tracking.
8. If unit does not drive in straight line,
adjustment is required.
a. Remove spring pin (C) from back
of control rod swivel (D) and
remove swivel from bracket.
b. Adjust control rod swivel length by
rotating the swivel on the control
rod up or down.
c. Place control rod swivel back in
bracket and replace spring pin.
d. Repeat on the other side of the
unit if necessary.
9. Adjust speed control/safety bar back to
original operating position.
Removing and Installing Traction
Drive Belt
Removal
1. Park unit safely. See Using the Parking
Brake on page 13.
2. Remove mower deck center belt guard.
3. Remove mower deck drive belt. See
Removing and Installing Mower Deck
Drive Belt (988146) on page 24.
4. Locate hex bolt and flange nut (A)
directly behind engine. Fully loosen but
do not remove flange nut.
5. Under unit, remove outer flange nut (B)
from idler pulley bolt (C) and disconnect
tension spring (D).
CAUTION: Avoid injury! Clear area
of all bystanders before performing
this service procedure.
CAUTION: Avoid injury! Do not
operate unit at a high speed when
checking for tracking. Adjust safety
bar to limit forward speed.
