Overview

This document describes the Greenworks Pro 80V 16" Brushless Chainsaw, models CSB404 and CS80L02, designed for outdoor, domestic use by adults for cutting branches, trunks, logs, and beams. It is not intended for professional tree services or use by children.

Function Description:

The chainsaw is designed for cutting wood. It operates on an 80V DC battery system. Key operational aspects include starting and stopping the machine, operating the chain brake, felling trees, limbing trees, and bucking logs. The chain brake is a crucial safety feature that must be disengaged to start the chainsaw and can be engaged by pushing the front hand guard forward. For felling trees, specific notching and felling cuts are described, emphasizing safety measures like maintaining proper distance from the tree and ensuring clear escape paths. Limbing involves removing branches from a fallen tree, while bucking refers to cutting a log into lengths.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Voltage: 80 V DC
  • No load speed: 20 m/s

  • Battery model: GBA80250
  • Charger model: GCH8040

Usage Features:

The chainsaw incorporates several features to ensure safe and efficient operation:

  • Work Area Safety: Users are advised to keep the work area clean, well-lit, and free of children and bystanders to prevent accidents.
  • Personal Safety: Always wear eye protection, dust masks, non-skid safety shoes, hard hats, and hearing protection. Maintain alertness, avoid operating while tired or under the influence of substances, and ensure proper footing and balance. Loose clothing, jewelry, hair, and gloves should be kept away from moving parts.
  • Prevent Unintentional Starting: The switch must be in the off position before connecting the battery pack or carrying the tool.
  • Kickback Prevention: Kickback can occur when the guide bar tip touches an object or when the wood closes in and pinches the saw chain. To prevent kickback, hold the chainsaw firmly with both hands, avoid over-reaching, and do not cut above shoulder height. Only use manufacturer-specified guide bars and chains.
  • Battery Use and Care: Use only specified battery packs and chargers. Avoid short-circuiting battery terminals. In case of battery fluid contact, rinse with water and seek medical attention.
  • Oil Indicator: The chainsaw has an oil indicator (7) to monitor the chain oil level, ensuring sufficient lubrication during operation.
  • Chain Brake: A front handle guard/chain brake (2) is present for safety, which must be disengaged to start the machine and can be engaged to stop the chain.
  • Lock-out Button and Trigger: The lock-out button (4) must be pressed before the trigger (5) can be engaged to start the chainsaw.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is essential for the chainsaw's longevity and safe operation:

  • Battery Removal: Always remove the battery pack from the machine before performing any maintenance.
  • Cleaning: Avoid using brake fluids, gasoline, petroleum-based materials, strong solvents, or detergents on plastic parts, as these can cause damage.
  • Guide Bar and Chain Replacement:
    1. Remove chain cover nuts with a wrench (11).
    2. Remove the chain cover (14).
    3. Place chain drive links (21) into the bar groove (20) and ensure chain cutters (22) are in the correct direction.
    4. Position the chain so the loop is behind the guide bar.
    5. Hold the chain and bar, then loop the chain around the sprocket (17).
    6. Ensure the chain tension pin hole on the guide bar fits correctly with the bolt (16).
    7. Install the chain cover and tighten the chain.
  • Chain Tension Adjustment:
    1. Stop the machine and loosen the lock nuts.
    2. Turn the chain adjustment screw (13) clockwise to increase tension or counterclockwise to decrease it.
    3. Tension the chain so it can just be pulled away from the bar at its center point.
    4. Tighten the lock nuts once the desired tension is achieved.
  • Sharpening Cutters:
    1. Tension the chain.
    2. Sharpen the cutters' corner with a 5/32 in. (4 mm) diameter round file.
    3. Sharpen the top plate, side plate, and depth gauge with a flat file.
    4. File all cutters to specified angles and the same length.
    5. It is recommended that a service center with an electric sharpener perform significant sharpening work.
  • Guide Bar Maintenance:
    1. Periodically turn the guide bar over to ensure symmetrical wear.
    2. Lubricate the bearings on the nose sprocket (if present) with a syringe.
    3. Clean the bar groove with a scraping hook.
    4. Clean lubrication holes.
    5. Remove burrs from edges and level cutters with a flat file.
    6. Replace the bar if the groove does not fit the drive links or if the inside of the guide bar is worn.
  • Chain Replacement: Replace the chain if the length of cutting edges is less than 1/5 in. (5 mm), there is too much space between drive links and rivets, cut speed is slow, or sharpening no longer increases cutting speed.

Transportation and Storage:

  • Before moving, remove the battery pack, keep hands clear of the lock-out button, and place the scabbard on the guide bar and chain.
  • Before storage, remove all residual oil, remove the battery pack, clean the machine, and store it in an area not accessible to children and away from corrosive agents.

Troubleshooting:

The manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues such as the motor running but the chain not rotating, the machine not starting, or the chain not cutting correctly, along with possible causes and solutions.
