5 Boot ROM and Host Software Loading
Traditionally, the loading of switch software is accomplished through the serial port. This approach is
slow, inconvenient, and cannot be used for remote real-time loading. To resolve these problems, the
TFTP and FTP modules are introduced into the switch. With these modules, the software and files can
be loaded through Ethernet port conveniently.
This chapter introduces how to load Boot ROM and host software into a switch through the Boot ROM
menu or the CLI.

The Boot ROM software version must match the host software version when you load the Boot ROM
and host software.

Loading Software Through the Boot ROM Menu
If your terminal is directly connected to the switch, you can load Boot ROM and host software locally.
Before loading the software, make sure that your terminal is correctly connected to the switch to insure
successful software loading.
