8.2.6 Chain or belt tension
Check the chain or belt tension in three or four
positions, turning the crank a full revolution.
The ideal chain or belt tension has been achieved
if the chain or the belt can be pushed a maximum of
2 cm in the middle between the pinion and the
toothed wheel. The crank must also turn without
resistance.
Illustration 25: Checking the chain and belt tension
Excessive chain or belt tension increases wear.
If the chain or belt tension is too low, there is a risk that
the chain or belt will slip off the chain wheels.
Check the chain and belt tension once a month.
If the chain or the belt can be pushed more than
2 cm, the chain or belt will need to be tensioned
again by the HERCULES specialist dealer.
If the chain or the belt can only be pushed less than
1 cm, the chain or belt will need to be relieved of
tension accordingly.
