6.3 MOIST-Method and it’s special features
To transform the advantages of microwave moisture measurements described in the
previous chapter in a useful format, hf sensor developed two sensing heads, which are
only to be put onto the material: MOIST-R1M V2 as a surface sensing head and
MOIST-PM V2 as volume sensing head.
For measuring both sensing heads are put smoothly onto the material to be measured.
A good surface contact is very important. Using the procedure described in chapter 3 a
measurement can be realized in a few seconds.
6.3.1 Surface Moisture Measurement with MOIST-R1M V2
The surface sensing head MOIST-R1M V2 contains a stray field arrangement, which
enables a penetration depth of up to 3 cm. It is well suited for moisture measurements
in the layers of a material which are close to the surface. Measurement is realized on
the basis of a reflection principle, i.e. the part of a microwave is measured which is
reflected from the material dependent on its moisture content.
For realizing the measurement the sensing head has to be put smoothly onto a plain
surface of the material under test. In general care has to be taken that there are no
metallic objects below the test object.
