Overview

The HOLUX M-1200XX Bluetooth GPS Receiver is a comprehensive GPS solution designed for high-sensitivity tracking signals, offering both Bluetooth and UART interfaces, along with a built-in rechargeable battery. Its design is based on the MediaTek Inc. (MTK) GPS solution-MT3318 low-power architecture, ensuring efficient operation.

This device serves a dual function. Primarily, it transmits satellite information to PDAs or notebooks via its Bluetooth interface. Additionally, it can act as a G-Mouse GPS receiver when connected through a HOLUX-designed data cable (an optional accessory), delivering satellite signals to devices without a Bluetooth interface. This versatility makes it suitable for a wide range of field applications, including car navigation, mapping, agriculture surveying, and security uses, provided there is a clear view of the sky.

The M-1200XX connects to other devices through its Bluetooth interface and features a built-in rechargeable Li-ion battery. This battery allows the device to save crucial satellite information, such as the status of satellite signals, previous available locations, and the current date and time, even when not actively connected.

Leveraging advanced technology, the M-1200XX is capable of tracking up to 32 satellites simultaneously. It boasts rapid re-acquisition of satellite signals within 0.1 microseconds and updates position data every second, ensuring accurate and timely location information.

Usage Features:

The M-1200XX is equipped with a MTK MT3318 low-power consumption GPS chipset, supporting 32 parallel satellite-tracking channels for fast acquisition and reacquisition. Its superior sensitivity, up to -159 dBm, enhances performance in challenging environments. The device includes a built-in WAAS/EGNOS Demodulator, eliminating the need for additional hardware to improve accuracy.

It is fully compatible with the Bluetooth Serial Port Profile (SPP), allowing seamless integration with various Bluetooth-enabled devices. The low power consumption, combined with a built-in rechargeable and changeable Lithium-ion battery, provides an impressive working time of up to 15 hours.

The M-1200XX offers an expand terminal contact for connection to other systems without Bluetooth, providing flexibility in its application. It supports the NMEA0183 V 3.01 data protocol, a standard for GPS data communication.

For user convenience, the device features three color-LEDs that indicate its status, including Bluetooth, GPS, and battery status. Its FLASH-based program memory allows for future software revisions to be upgraded via a serial interface, ensuring the device remains current with technological advancements.

The M-1200XX is designed to be small, sleek, and lightweight, making it easy to hold and carry. Its enhanced algorithms, including SnapLock and SnapStart, provide superior navigation performance in complex environments such as urban areas, canyons, and areas with dense foliage.

This device is ideal for various applications, including car navigation, marine navigation, fleet management, AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location), personal navigation, tracking systems, and mapping device applications.

Getting Started and Operation:

To begin using the M-1200XX, first ensure the battery is fully charged. Connect the power cable to the device and a power socket. The battery indicator light will show a red LED when power is too low, a green LED when charging, and will turn off when fully charged.

To power on the device, use the power switch. The Bluetooth status is indicated by a blue LED. When searching for a Bluetooth device, the blue LED will blink once per second. If data is transferring, it will blink once every three seconds. If the device is waiting for reconnection or reconnecting, the blue LED will blink once per second.

For optimal GPS performance, place the M-1200XX in a location with a clear view of the sky, free from obstructions. The GPS status is indicated by an orange LED. When searching for GPS signals, the orange LED will blink. Once a position is fixed, the orange LED will remain steadily on.

Connecting the device to a PDA or laptop via Bluetooth involves a few steps. In the Pocket PC settings, enable "manage GPS automatically." Then, open the Bluetooth Manager to enable Bluetooth functionality. In the "Devices" panel, initiate a "New partnership" search for nearby Bluetooth devices. Once "HOLUX_M-1200XX" is found, select it and proceed to connect to "Serial port" or "SPP Slave." After establishing the connection, navigate to the "COM ports" panel, select "New Outgoing Port," choose "HOLUX_M-1200XX," and select the appropriate COM port. It is recommended not to use "Secure Connection" to avoid unstable connections. Once these steps are complete, your navigation map program can utilize the GPS function.

Maintenance Features:

The M-1200XX is designed with an over-temperature protection feature, which activates circuit protection when the device reaches an over-temperature condition of 50℃. This helps prevent damage to the device and ensures its longevity.

For troubleshooting, if there is no GPS output but the GPS timer is counting, it may indicate a weak or absent GPS signal or invalid ephemeris and almanac data. The recommended solution is to test the device under an open sky at a fixed location and run the "Cold start" function in the Mini GPS Viewer. If the ephemeris and almanac data are invalid due to prolonged disuse, removing and re-inserting the battery for three seconds can resolve the issue.

If the Bluetooth function is unstable, power cycling the M-1200XX or restarting the PDA/PC and re-establishing the Bluetooth connection as per the installation instructions (section 5.2) is advised.

If the COM port cannot be opened, it suggests a Bluetooth connection interruption or a conflict with other programs. Users should check the Bluetooth connection and close any conflicting programs. If the M-1200XX cannot be found, it indicates a poor Bluetooth connection, and restarting the PDA/PC and re-installing the Bluetooth device connection is recommended.

The device also offers "Hot Start," "Warm Start," and "Cold Start" options within the Mini GPS Viewer setup panel. These functions facilitate the re-acquisition of Ephemeris and Almanac data. Since satellites are constantly moving, if the GPS receiver has been powered off for more than 0.5 hours and is no longer in its previous position, it will take longer to obtain a GPS position fix. In such cases, clicking "Cold Start" or "Warm Start" or removing and re-inserting the battery for three seconds (which is equivalent to a "Cold Start") can expedite the re-acquisition process.

The HOLUX M-1200XX is warranted to be free from defects in material and functions for a period of one year from the date of purchase. Any failure under normal conditions within this period will result in a free replacement. Given that the M-1200XX has a built-in Li-battery, it is important to avoid exposing it to high-temperature environments or direct sunlight for extended periods to ensure battery health and device longevity.
