trimpots” on page 65 and “Appendix G: H-O-A and trimpot status
values” on page 95.
Backup mode operation. If an EXP /AXM loses VLX/ACM-VLX
communication, it goes into backup mode, commanding outputs to
backup mode values. See “Backup mode sequence of operation” on
page 66.
DDC programming. Supports peer-to-peer DDC programming for both
reads and writes over BACnet. Use Global Controller/Building
Controller DDC to program DDC, not VLC DDC.
Out-of-Service for AIs, AOs, BIs, and BOs. When an output is set to
Out-Of-Service, then it simply remains at the last commanded value. Set
the out-of-service property for inputs and outputs to TRUE to simulate
inputs and operating conditions without affecting outputs. This can be
useful for testing DDC and automation sequences. This operation is
different from VLCs, where setting out-of-service = TRUE causes DDC
alone to control the output. See “Appendix F: BACnet object and
property reference” on page 80.
PTP modem support. The VLX-Platinum also supports an external
modem connected through its EIA-232 port. This modem is suitable for
alarm dial-out.
Compliances
The VLX/ACM-VLX makes operational and functional data available to the
automation system as BACnet objects and properties in accordance with ANSI/
ASHRAE Standard 135-2001, BACnet.
The VLX/EXP or VLX/AXM assembly appears to BACnet as a single device.
EXPs/AXMs are not by themselves BACnet-enabled. An EXP/AXM requires a
VLX/ACM-VLX to operate and to make data available as BACnet objects and
properties.
The VLX/ACM-VLX connects to the BACnet network over BACnet Ethernet,
BACnet IP (preferred method), or MS/TP network (not recommended). The
VLX/ACM-VLX supports Annex J BACnet/IP and functions as a BACnet
broadcast management device (BBMD). See Table 10 on page 49 and the
BACtalk System Design Guide.
See “Appendix F: BACnet object and property reference” on page 80 for a
reference of objects and properties the VLX/ACM-VLX supports.
BACtalk for Windows version 3.11, Envision for BACtalk version 1.0 or later, is
required to set up the VLX. Compass 1.4 Update 1 or later and ACM ROC 1.6.9
is required to configure the ACM-VLX.
Restrictions
VLX: Do not exceed 10 BACnet devices.
ACM-VLX: Allows running a fully loaded MS/TP network on another
open 485 network.
Although an MS/TP connection is present, Ethernet is the preferred
primary method of connecting the VLX/ACM-VLX to the BACnet
network and to the Compass operator workstation. If MS/TP is the
