HP Enterprise Virtual Array Updating Product
Software Guide (XCS 10000000)
Abstract
This guide describes how to upgrade controller software, disk drive firmware, and related EVA management software on the
HP EVA4400 and HP EVA6400/8400. HP P6300/P6500 EVAs are not included in this document because they are already
running XCS 10000000 and do not need an upgrade. P6000, used throughout this document, is the new branding for the
Enterprise Virtual Array product family. General references to HP P6000 Command View may also refer to earlier versions of
HP Command View EVA.
This guide is intended for field personnel and customers who are experienced with these array models, storage area networks,
HP P6000 Command View and associated software. This guide does not provide information about upgrading or replacing
array hardware.
The information in this guide is subject to change. Please check for the latest version before starting an upgrade.

Why does my HP Server show an unknown storage system?
    • A
      Andre SpenceAug 22, 2025
If your HP P6000 Command View reports an unknown storage system, it might be due to a communication loss with the controllers. If the array has a heavy I/O load, the HBA in the management server may time out commands to the controllers, making the array appear in an unknown state. This usually corrects itself within a minute. Alternatively, you can perform a Rediscover operation to initiate new commands to the controller. Also, ensure you're using an HP P6000 Command View version compatible with XCS 10000000. If not, upgrade HP P6000 Command View to a compatible version.
