602 Chapter 9 Preventive Maintenance
Preventive Maintenance
5. Use a clean, absorbent lint-free cloth, that has been slightly dampened with Methyl Acetate to wipe
loosened ink deposits from the platen (Methyl Acetate is not supplied in the Maintenance Kit).
6. Clean the Cutter ramp with the damp cloth.
7. Clean the exposed part of the wheels with a dry cloth. Ideally, clean the whole circumference of
these wheels (you can use Turn Drive Roller Utility on page 188).
8. Methyl Acetate is a flammable liquid, after the cleaning procedure has finished, remove the liquid
and the cloth away from the vicinity of the printer.
9. Wait three or four minutes to let the liquid evaporate, before turning on the printer
Clean the OMAS window
The OMAS (referred to as the Paper Advance Sensor in the customer documentation) is covered by a very
small rectangular window (less than 1 square centimeter in size and shown) close to the third platen roller
from the right, it is this window that requires cleaning. The ability of the OMAS sensor to detect the
substrate as it passes is a critical part of the functioning of the printer. The OMAS window must be cleaned
CAUTION: Do not use commercial cleaners or abrasive cleaners. Do not wet the Center
Platen directly because you will leave too much moisture behind.
