Removal and replacement procedures
Modem (select models only)

The modem spare part kit does not include a cable. The RJ-11 (modem) connector is included in the Cable Kit,
spare part number 531211-001.
Before removing the modem, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on,
and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then
unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the battery (see “Battery” on page 4-7).
5. Remove the hard drive cover (see “Hard drive” on page 4-10).
Remove the modem:
1. Remove the two Phillips PM2.0×3.0 screws 1 that secure the modem to the base enclosure.
2. Lift up the front edge of the module 2.
3. Disconnect the RJ-11 (modem) connector cable 3 from the system board.
Reverse this procedure to install the modem.
