Users of USB cables must not connect them until instructed later in the setup process.
Remove all tape and protective film from the lid, front, and back of the device.
Lift the color graphics display, remove its protective film, and adjust for optimal viewing.
Locate the Windows/Mac CD, Basics Guide, and ink cartridges for setup.
Find the Power Cord, Adapter, and optional USB/Ethernet cables for connection.
Locate the photo paper and control panel faceplate for installation.
Place the control panel faceplate over the device buttons.
Press down on all edges to secure the faceplate, ensuring button visibility.
Load plain white paper into the main paper tray for alignment.
Lift output tray, pull photo tray, load 4x6 inch photo paper with glossy side down.
Squeeze the bottom of each latch to release it, then lift all six latches.
Match ink cartridge color and pattern to the print carriage slots.
Insert the black ink cartridge into the first left slot and close the latch.
Repeat for each color ink cartridge, ensuring latches are secure.
After closing the door, load plain paper and press OK to start the alignment process.
The device initializes cartridges and aligns. Wait approx. 5 mins, then press OK.
Turn on your computer, log in if necessary, and wait for the desktop to appear.
Close any currently open programs before proceeding with setup.
Connect the device directly to a computer using a USB cable.
Connect the device to a network using an Ethernet cable.
Insert the Windows CD, follow prompts, and select 'directly to this computer' for connection.
Locate the Mac CD and double-click the HP All-in-One Installer icon.
Follow instructions until prompted, then connect USB cable to device and computer.
Follow onscreen instructions to complete the software installation process.
Locate and remove the yellow plug from the device's Ethernet port.
Connect one end to the device, the other to the hub/router/switch.
Select 'through the network' and follow prompts, accepting firewall messages.
Complete all screens, including the Setup Assistant, for network installation.
If Microsoft Add Hardware appears, click Cancel, unplug USB, and insert Windows CD.
Check connection, restart device, or temporarily disable firewall if printer is not found.
Insert memory card, press Photosmart Express, select 'View & Print', and choose photo.
Press OK to select photo, then press OK repeatedly to print.
