The figure above shows a sample fault-tolerant mixed-connect cabling scenario on left, and a
straight-through mixed-connect cabling scenario on right. When cabling supported drive enclosures in
mixed-connect environments, be mindful of the constraints concerning components equipped with SAS2.0
and SAS1.1 expanders, respectively (see Mixed-connect cabling considerations on page 26).
In the illustration on the left, note that the D2700 6Gb drive enclosures could alternatively be cabled ahead
of the P2000 6Gb drive enclosures. The illustration at the right shows a cabling progression featuring a
D2700 6Gb drive enclosure followed by a P2000 6Gb drive enclosure, MSA70 3Gb drive enclosure, and
MSA2000 3Gb drive enclosure. It is important to note that the MSA2000 3Gb drive enclosure follows the
other drive enclosures, and that the straight-through cabling method is used.
Although 6Gbps drive enclosures can be cabled behind a 3Gbps rated MSA70 3Gb drive enclosure,
performance of the 6Gbps devices will be limited, as link rate speeds will be throttled-down to 3Gbps.
