somelocationwhereanindicationofdrainowrestriction
maybereadilyobserved.Unitsfurnishedwitha“tell-tale”
connectionshouldbeslopedveryslightlytowardsthe
drainoutlets.The differential height of the trap inlet to
outlet must be at least one inch greater than the total
static pressure on the unit. The height from the drain
outlet to the bottom of the trap must not be less than
the total static pressure. The condensate drain hose
should be secured with a clamp after installing.
Ductwork Connections
Allductworkand/orsupplyandreturngrillesshould
beinstalledinaccordancewiththeprojectplansand
specications.Ifnotincludedontheunitorfurnishedfrom
thefactory,supplyandreturngrillesshouldbeprovidedas
recommendedintheproductcatalog.
Forunitswithnoreturn-airductwork,checklocalcode
requirementsforpossibleapplicationrestrictions.Allunits
mustbeinstalledinareasthatarenon-combustible.
Somemodelsaredesignedtobeconnectedtoduct-work
withaMINIMUMamountofexternalstaticpressure.
Theseunitsmaybedamagedbyoperationwithout
theproperductworkconnected.Consulttheapproved
submittalsandtheproductcatalogforunitexternalstatic
pressurelimitations.
Unitsprovidedwithoutsideairforventilationshouldhave
someformoflow-temperatureprotectiontopreventcoil
freeze-up.Thisprotectionmaybeanyofseveralmethods
suchasalow-temperaturethermostattoclosetheoutside
airdamperorapreheatcoiltotempertheoutsideair
beforeitreachestheunit.
Itshouldbenotedthatnoneofthesemethodswill
adequatelyprotectacoilintheeventofpowerfailure.
Thesafestmethodoffreezeprotectionistouseglycolin
theproperpercentsolutionforthecoldestexpectedair
temperature.
HorizontalplenumtypeCPYShortShipTime(SST)units
maybeshippedwithabottomreturn-airinlet.Theseunits
maybeconvertedtorearreturnbyremovingthebottom
inletlterretainerclipsandlter,thenremovingthe
plenumrearpanel.Therearpanelmustthenbemovedto
thebottomoftheunitandreversedsothatthetopedge
(whenrearmounted)istowardthesupplyendoftheunit
andreinstalledonthebottomoftheplenum.Thepanel
shouldbepositionedtowardsthedrainpantoexpose
theone-inchwidelterslotforunit-mountedlters.The
panelshouldbepositionedagainsttherearbottombrace
completelycoveringthebottomoftheplenumonunits
withremotelters.
Hi-Performanceplenum-typemodelsHPYSSTunitsmay
beshippedwithabottomreturn-airinlet.Theseunits
maybeconvertedtorearreturnbysimplyexchangingthe
bottomandrearplenumpanels.
Flexibleductconnectionsshouldbeusedonallair
handlingequipmenttominimizevibrationtransmissions.
Allductworkandinsulationshouldbeinstalledtoallow
properaccesstoallcomponentsforserviceandrepair
suchaslters,motor/blowerassemblies,etc.

equipment or component selection, and/or installation
of base unit, ductwork, grilles, and other related
components.
Electrical Connections
Theunitserialplateliststheunitelectricalcharacteristics
suchastherequiredsupplyvoltage,fanandheater
amperageandrequiredcircuitampacities.Theunitwiring
diagramshowsallunitandeldwiring.Sinceeachproject
isdifferentandeachunitonaprojectmaybedifferent,
theinstallermustbefamiliarwiththewiringdiagramand
serialplateontheunitBEFOREbeginninganywiring.
Allcomponentsfurnishedforeldinstallationbyeitherthe
factoryorthecontrolscontractorshouldbelocatedand
checkedforproperfunctionandcompatibility.Allinternal
componentsshouldbecheckedforshippingdamage,and
anylooseconnectionsshouldbetightenedtominimize
problemsduringstart-up.
Anydevicessuchasfanswitchesorthermostatsthat
havebeenfurnishedfromthefactoryforeldinstallation
