This document describes the Insignia Dual Beer Kegerator/Beverage Cooler, models NS-BK2TBS8 and NS-BK2TBK8. It functions as a versatile appliance capable of dispensing two different types of beer from kegs or converting into a standard beverage refrigerator for general storage.
Function Description:
The Insignia Kegerator/Beverage Cooler is designed to store and dispense draft beer from kegs while maintaining an ideal temperature. It can accommodate a variety of keg sizes, including 1/2 barrel, 1/4 barrel (short/pony and slim), 1/6 barrel, and 1/8 barrel kegs. The unit features two taps, allowing for the simultaneous dispensing of two different beverages. When not used for kegs, it can be converted into a conventional refrigerator by removing the draft arm assembly and installing wire shelves.

- Mobility and Stability: Includes locking casters for easy movement and secure placement.
- Guard Rail: A guard rail is provided for the worktop to prevent items from falling off.
- CO2 Regulation: Comes with a CO2 regulator to set and maintain pressure between 10-12 PSI for optimal beer dispensing. The CO2 tank can be installed either inside the kegerator for a cleaner look or on the back for more internal space.
- Beer Dispensing Technique: Detailed instructions are provided for proper beer pouring, emphasizing glass angle and tap operation to achieve a desirable foam head (3/4" to 1" high).
- Beverage Refrigerator Conversion: The kegerator can be easily converted into a standard beverage refrigerator by removing the beer dispensing components and installing the included wire shelves.
- Beer Quality Guidance: The manual includes a troubleshooting section for common beer quality issues such as excessive foam, flat beer, and abnormal taste/smell, offering solutions related to regulator settings, temperature, pouring technique, and cleanliness. It also provides guidance on optimal serving temperatures for different beer types (Lagers, Stouts, Ales, Craft Beers).
- Power Supply: Requires a 3-prong grounded outlet. The use of extension cords is discouraged, but if necessary, a UL/CUL-Listed, 3-wire grounding type appliance extension cord with specific electrical ratings is recommended.
Maintenance Features:
- Cleaning: Regular cleaning of the interior and exterior is recommended using mild detergent and warm water. Specific instructions are given for cleaning the interior with a baking soda solution and washing shelves and metal plates with detergent.
- Beer Component Cleaning: To prevent yeast and mold buildup and maintain beer taste, the keg coupler and faucet should be thoroughly rinsed with warm water when replacing a keg. Beer lines should be cleaned using a hand pump cleaning kit or cleaning can (sold separately).
- Automatic Defrosting: The unit features an automatic defrost system. Defrost water collects in a tray above the compressor and evaporates, eliminating the need for manual defrosting.
- Door Gasket Maintenance: Keeping the door gasket clean is important for efficient operation.
- Storage: For extended periods of non-use (more than three weeks), the kegerator should be unplugged, emptied, cleaned, and dried, with the door left slightly ajar to prevent mold and odor.
- Troubleshooting: A comprehensive troubleshooting guide addresses common problems related to beer quality and cooler operation, offering solutions before requiring professional service.
- Safety Warnings: Emphasizes critical safety instructions, including grounding requirements, proper handling of the CO2 tank, avoiding electrical shock, and child safety measures. It specifically warns against damaging refrigerant tubing and using electrical appliances inside the storage compartment unless recommended by the manufacturer.
