Overview

The Insta360 GO 3 is a compact action camera designed for flexible shooting and easy control, either as a standalone unit or integrated with its accompanying Action Pod. This device offers a versatile user experience, allowing for remote control, live preview, and a wide range of shooting modes to capture various scenarios.

Function Description

The Insta360 GO 3 camera, when used independently, is a small, lightweight unit equipped with a lens, a GO 3 button, a camera indicator light, charging points, and a speaker. It is designed for discreet and flexible mounting, enabling users to capture unique perspectives. When placed inside the Action Pod, the GO 3 camera functions as a single action camera, with its internal buttons disabled, and control shifting to the Action Pod's buttons or the Insta360 app.

The Action Pod serves as a control and preview unit for the GO 3 camera. It features a flip touchscreen, an Action Pod indicator light, a shutter button, a power button, charging points, a quick button, a mounting latch, a release switch, and a Type-C charging port. The flip touchscreen allows for real-time monitoring of footage, access to camera settings, and playback of recorded content. When the GO 3 is outside the Action Pod, the Action Pod can be used for remote control and live preview up to 16ft (5m) away, transmitting data via Bluetooth.

The device supports various shooting modes, including:

  • Video: For standard video recording.
  • FreeFrame Video: Allows users to choose the aspect ratio after recording, offering post-production flexibility.
  • Timelapse: Ideal for capturing static time-lapse videos.
  • TimeShift: Enables the creation of hyperlapse (sped-up) videos while moving.
  • Slow Motion: Records slow-motion footage at 120fps.
  • Loop Recording: Continuously records video, saving only the latest clip to conserve storage space, suitable for situations where users are waiting for an event to occur.
  • Photo: For taking standard photos.
  • Starlapse: Shoots videos with a star trails effect.
  • Interval: Captures photos at specific intervals.
  • HDR Photo: Takes photos with high-dynamic range.

The GO 3 offers internal storage capacity options of 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB, with a portion reserved for the system.

Usage Features

The Insta360 GO 3 and Action Pod are designed for intuitive operation through a combination of physical buttons and a touchscreen interface.

Action Pod Button Instructions:

  • Power Button: A single press powers on the GO 3, wakes it up (when not in the Action Pod), or turns the Action Pod's touchscreen on/off. A long press for 2 seconds powers off the device, and a long press for 7 seconds initiates a force shutdown.
  • Shutter Button: A single press takes a photo or starts/stops video recording. It can also quickly power on the camera and start recording if the GO 3 is powered off and in the Action Pod. Additionally, it confirms connection on the app during the initial setup.
  • Quick Button: A single press enters the preset menu or switches shooting modes. Subsequent presses switch between different modes or presets. The first press defaults to the Shooting Mode page, with an option to switch to the Presets page.

GO 3 Button Instructions (when out of Action Pod):

  • GO 3 Button: A single press takes a photo or starts/stops video recording. It also confirms connection on the app during initial setup. If the GO 3 is powered off and out of the Action Pod, a single press can quickly power on the camera and start recording. A long press for 2 seconds powers off the device, and a long press for 7 seconds initiates a force shutdown. Button functions can be customized via the app or Action Pod.

Touchscreen Interface:

The touchscreen's main display shows the current shooting mode, battery level, storage capacity, and shooting parameters.

  • Tap the screen: Toggles the display of information on the touchscreen.
  • Swipe down from the top: Accesses camera settings, including screen orientation, lock screen, volume control, brightness adjustment, QuickCapture, voice control, stabilization levels (Level 1, 2, 3, and Off), Timed Capture, audio settings (Wind Reduction, Stereo, Direction Focus), and grid display.
  • Swipe left and right in the center: Switches between different shooting modes.
  • Swipe from the left: Enters the album page to view recorded content.
  • Swipe from the right: Accesses shooting parameter settings, such as Shutter Speed (Auto/Manual), Sensitivity (ISO), Exposure Compensation (EV), White Balance (WB), Metering (Face/Matrix), Low-light Stabilization, and AEB.
  • Swipe up from the bottom: Views shooting specification settings, including Ratio, Resolution, and FPS.

Accessories:

The Insta360 GO 3 is compatible with various accessories for enhanced shooting flexibility:

  • Magnet Pendant: Worn inside clothing, allowing the camera to attach magnetically to the front. An Angle Adjustment Insert can be used to modify the shooting angle. Users with pacemakers are advised against using this accessory due to its magnetism.
  • Pivot Stand: Can be used with either the GO 3 or the Action Pod. It attaches via buckles and can be stuck onto clean, flat surfaces after removing a silicone protective cover. The Pivot Stand base is detachable and supports 1/4" mounting points for other accessories.
  • Easy Clip: Inserts the GO 3 securely and attaches to the edge of a hat or other objects, with adjustable angle.

Connectivity:

The Insta360 GO 3 connects to the Insta360 app via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for activation, control, and file transfer. For Android devices, the camera can also connect directly via a USB-C cable for Android Mode, allowing app control and footage access.

File Transfer:

Files can be downloaded to a smartphone via the Insta360 app or to a PC using the official USB-C cable. For iPhone users, iTunes is required for PC transfer. Android users can transfer files by connecting their phone to a PC and accessing the DCIM folder. Mac users can use Android File Transfer for Android devices or Finder for iPhones.

Waterproofing:

The GO 3 camera (when out of the Action Pod) is waterproof up to 16ft (5m), provided the included Lens Guard is installed. The Action Pod is IPX4 water resistant, protecting against light rain and snow, but not suitable for submersion or high-velocity water. For extended underwater use, the GO 3 Dive Case is recommended, making both the camera and Action Pod waterproof up to 196ft (60m).

Maintenance Features

Firmware Update:

Regular firmware updates are provided for both the GO 3 and Action Pod to ensure optimal performance. It is recommended to update to the latest version. Before updating, ensure both devices have at least 25% battery remaining.

  • Via Insta360 app: The app will notify users of available updates. Follow on-screen instructions. If an update fails, ensure the GO 3 is in the Action Pod and close to the phone, the app is running, and there is a strong, stable network connection.
  • Via Computer: Connect the GO 3 (in Action Pod and powered on) to a computer via USB-C cable in USB Mode. Download the latest firmware from the official Insta360 website and copy the "Insta360GO3FW.pkg" file to the GO 3's root directory (do not change the file name). Disconnect the GO 3, power it on, and the update will begin, indicated by a slowly flashing blue light. The device will restart automatically upon completion.

Waterproofing Maintenance:

  • After underwater use, thoroughly dry the camera with a soft cloth before placing it in the Action Pod. Ensure magnetic charging points are completely dry.
  • After use in seawater, soak the camera in fresh water for 15 minutes, rinse gently, and then dry thoroughly.
  • Do not use a hair dryer to dry the camera, as this can damage the microphone, speaker, and internal waterproofing.
  • Avoid operating the GO 3 camera for extended periods (over 1 hour) outside the recommended temperature range (-4°F to 104°F/-20℃ to 40℃) or in humid environments.
  • Do not store the camera in high-temperature or high-humidity environments.
  • Do not disassemble the camera.

Indicator Lights:

Separate LED status indicator lights on the camera and Action Pod provide information on their status, such as powering on/off, taking photos, recording videos, charging, and full charge. Other states include firmware updates (slowing flashing blue), cooling down (rapidly flashing yellow), U-Disk/Webcam Mode (solid cyan), storage full/file error/USB error (solid yellow), and insufficient card space (rapidly flashing yellow). Indicator lights can be toggled on/off through the camera's system settings.
