Overview

The Instant™ Vortex™ Slim Air Fryer is a versatile kitchen appliance designed to cook delicious meals with less oil and hassle, offering the rich, crispy flavor of deep frying through rapid air circulation. This user manual provides comprehensive guidance for setting up, operating, and maintaining the air fryer, ensuring a safe and enjoyable cooking experience.

Function Description:

The Instant™ Vortex™ Slim Air Fryer primarily functions as an air fryer, but also offers several other smart programs: Roast, Bake, Grill, and Reheat. It utilizes rapid air circulation to cook food, producing a crispy exterior with minimal oil. The appliance is designed for household use and is not intended for commercial purposes. It features a control panel with intuitive buttons and a control dial for easy operation, allowing users to set and adjust cooking time and temperature. The air fryer operates within a temperature range suitable for various cooking methods, from crisping chips to baking cakes.

Usage Features:

Before first use, users are instructed to unpack the air fryer, remove all packaging materials and accessories, and clean the interior and accessories thoroughly. A test run is recommended to ensure proper functionality. This involves plugging in the air fryer, inserting the cooking basket (without food), selecting the Air Fry program, setting a temperature of 205°C and a time of 18 minutes, and following the prompts to "Add Food" (by removing and reinserting the basket) and "Turn Food." After the test run, the appliance should be allowed to cool down.

The control panel includes a Time/Temperature display, Smart Programme buttons (Air Fry, Roast, Bake, Grill, Reheat), Temp and Time adjustment buttons, Cancel and Start buttons, Progress Messages, and a Control Dial. Users can turn the sound on/off and choose between Fahrenheit or Celsius for temperature display. Custom time and temperature settings can be saved for any of the five Smart Programmes, although adjustments made after cooking begins are not saved. Smart Programmes can be reset individually or all at once to their factory default settings. An active cooking program can be canceled at any time, with the internal fan potentially continuing to run to cool the unit.

For cooking, the air frying basket with its perforated cooking tray is used to allow air to flow around the food, ideal for most items like wings and cauliflower bites. For the Bake program, oven-safe metal or glass baking dishes can be placed inside the air frying basket for items like batters and doughs. Food can also be placed directly on the cooking tray. The cooking process involves inserting the air frying basket into the cooker, selecting a Smart Programme, adjusting temperature and time, and pressing Start. The display will show "Preheating" and then "Add Food" when it's time to add ingredients. During the cooking cycle, "Turn Food" will display, prompting users to remove the basket, turn or flip the food, and reinsert the basket. If the basket is not removed, cooking will resume after 10 seconds. Once the program completes, the appliance beeps, and the display shows "End," followed by "Food-Ready" beeps if the basket is not opened.

Specific instructions are provided for each Smart Programme:

  • Air Fry: Default 205°C for 15 minutes (range 82-205°C, 1 minute to 1 hour).
  • Roast: Default 193°C for 18 minutes (range 82-205°C, 1 minute to 1 hour).
  • Bake: Default 185°C for 30 minutes (range 82-205°C, 1 minute to 1 hour). For baking, there's no need to turn food, and approximately 2.5 cm of space should be left around the baking dish for even heat circulation.
  • Grill: Default 205°C for 6 minutes (temperature not adjustable, time range 1 minute to 40 minutes). No need to turn food.
  • Reheat: Default 138°C for 10 minutes (range 149-182°C, 1 minute to 1 hour). For Reheat, there is no preheating time; the display immediately shows the target temperature and cooking time.

Maintenance Features:

Cleaning the Instant™ Vortex™ Slim Air Fryer after each use is crucial. Users must always unplug the unit and allow all parts to cool to room temperature before cleaning. All surfaces must be dry before use or storage.

Cleaning instructions for specific parts:

  • Cooking tray: Dishwasher safe. Features a non-stick coating; metal utensils should be avoided during cleaning. Harsh cleaners should not be used.
  • Removable air fryer basket: Dishwasher safe. Also has a non-stick coating; metal utensils and harsh cleaners should be avoided.
  • Cooking chamber: Clean with a damp cloth and mild dish soap. The heating coil and cooking chamber walls should be regularly checked for oil splatter and food debris and cleaned as needed. It's essential to ensure the heating coil is dry before operating the air fryer. For baked-on grease and food residue, a mixture of baking soda and vinegar can be sprayed, wiped with a damp cloth, and for stubborn stains, allowed to sit for several minutes before scrubbing.
  • Power cord: Clean with a soft, damp cloth or sponge and wipe dry.

The manual also includes important safeguards, emphasizing placement on a stable, non-combustible, level surface, away from heat sources and direct sunlight. It warns against touching hot surfaces, blocking air vents, using the appliance outdoors, or for deep frying. Children and individuals with reduced capabilities should be supervised. The appliance should not be left unattended while in use or operated for more than 60 minutes in a 2-hour period. Overfilling the air fryer or pouring oil directly into the cooking container is prohibited. In case of black smoke, users are instructed to press Cancel, unplug, wait for smoking to stop, allow the unit to cool, and then clean thoroughly. Only Instant Brands LLC authorized accessories should be used. The power cord is short to reduce hazards and should only be plugged into an earthed electrical outlet. The appliance should be allowed to cool before cleaning or storage, and combustible materials should not be stored in it. Metal scouring pads or steel wool should not be used for cleaning.

Troubleshooting information is provided for common issues like the air fryer not turning on (check plug, outlet, basket insertion), black smoke (low smoke point oil, food residue, appliance malfunction), and white smoke (high fat content foods, water vaporizing, seasoning blown into element). Error codes (E1 for open circuit, E2 for temperature sensor short circuit) indicate issues requiring contact with Customer Care.
