Adjustment

spindle
Bearings
The
main
spindle
bearings
are
adjusted
at
the
factory
If
end
play
becomes
evident
after
considerable
use,
the
bearings
may
be
adjusted.
Loosen
set
screw
(1,
Fig.
32)
in
the
slotted
nut
(2,
Fig
32)
on
the
back
of
the
spindle.
Tighten
slotted
nut
until
all
end
play
is
taken
up.
The
spindle
should
still
revolve
freely.
Caution:
excessive
tightening
or
preloading
will
damaged
the
bearings.

Each
slide
is
fitted
with
a
gib
strip
and
can
be
adjusted
with
screws

lock
nuts

Loosen
the
lock
nuts
and
tighten
the
set
screws
until
slide
moves
freely
without
play.
Tighten
lock
nuts
to
retain
adjustment.

backlash
between
the
spindle
and
the
nut
is
eliminated.
For
operator
convenience,
the
compound
may
be
located
in
two
positions
on
the
cross
slide.
