  If your Jet Lathe motor or spindle stalls, several factors could be at play. It might be due to an excessive cut, in which case you should reduce the depth of cut. Another cause may be improper belt adjustment, or a worn or broken belt; adjust or replace the belt as needed. Check if the motor brushes are worn or damaged and replace them if necessary. Finally, worn spindle bearings or a worn motor can also cause this issue, so consider replacing the bearings or the motor.

  Excessive vibration in your Jet Lathe can stem from several issues. The workpiece might be warped, out of round, have a major flaw, or was improperly prepared for turning; correct this by planing or sawing the workpiece, or discard it and use a new one. Worn spindle bearings or a worn drive belt can also cause vibration, so replace them if needed. Ensure the motor mounting fasteners are tight and that the lathe is placed on a flat surface.

  If the tailstock moves when applying pressure on your Jet Lathe, the cam lock nut may need adjusting; tighten the cam lock nut. Another possibility is that the lathe bed and tailstock mating surfaces are greasy or oily; remove the tailstock and clean the surfaces with a cleaner/degreaser, then re-apply a light coat of oil to the lathe bed surface.
