  The tailstock on your Jet Lathe might move when applying pressure due to excessive force. The tailstock screw action can apply significant pressure to the workpiece and headstock, so use only enough force to secure the workpiece. Alternatively, greasy or oily surfaces on the lathe bed and tailstock mating surfaces could be the cause. Slide the tailstock to the right side of the lathe against the stop. Move the headstock into position and apply pressure to the workpiece with the tailstock. Clean the surfaces with a cleaner degreaser.
