5.9- Speed when harvesting
The correct tractor ground speed is one of the factors that directly influences the machine
output and the chopping quality.
The engine speed must be in a such way that the PTO speed be kept at 540 rpm.
Check whether in your tractor there is a sticker a table and/ or graphic scale that tells you the
speed for several rotations in each gear. In case there is not, refer to your tractors manual to
get this information.
As an example, see the decal below, the tractor outputs 540 rpm in the PTO with the engine at
1800 rpm.
After you have setup the engine speed, select the gear that provides proper speed to the
harvest, following this rule:
1- For bulky and taller crops and/ or for thin chopping, lower speed should be used.
2- For non-bulky and shorter crops and/ or for thicks chopping, higher speeds can be used.
