Overview

This document is the user manual for a Keystone™ Window/Wall-Type Room Air Conditioner. It provides comprehensive instructions for installation, operation, and maintenance, along with important safety information and troubleshooting tips.

Function Description:

The Keystone™ air conditioner is designed to provide cooling and, in some models, heating for indoor spaces. It is a window/wall-type unit, meaning it can be installed in standard double-hung windows or through a wall opening. The unit features an electronic control panel and can also be operated with a remote control. Key operating modes include Auto, Cool, Dry, and Fan Only, with additional features like Sleep mode, Energy Saver mode, and a Follow Me feature (on some models) that uses the remote as a thermostat for precise temperature control. The unit also includes a Fresh Air Vent Control on higher BTU models (10000~12000Btu/h) to recirculate, draw in, or exchange air.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Models Covered: R-KSTAW06B, R-KSTAW06C, R-KSTAW12B, R-KSTAW12C, R-KSTAW10B, R-KSTAW08B.
  • Window Opening Widths: Designed for standard double-hung windows with opening widths of 23 to 36 inches (584mm to 914mm).
  • Vertical Opening Requirement: A clear vertical opening of at least 13 inches (330mm) is required.
  • Height (H) for Installation:
    • 6000~8000Btu/h models: 14 inches (356mm)
    • 10000~12000Btu/h models: 15-1/2 inches (394mm)
  • Tilt Requirement: The air conditioner must be tilted back about 3° to 4° downward to the outside (approximately 3/4" to 1" for 5 to 8K models, and 1" to 1-3/4" for 10 to 12K models) to ensure proper condensate drainage.
  • Operating Temperature Conditions:
    • Cooling Operation:
      • Outdoor temp: 64-109°F (18-43°C) (or 64-125°F / 18-52°C for special tropical models)
      • Indoor temp: 62-90°F (17-32°C)
    • Heating Operation:
      • Outdoor temp: 23-76°F (-5-24°C)
      • Indoor temp: 32-80°F (0-27°C)
  • Power Supply Cord: Contains a current detection device to reduce the risk of fire. It features a three-prong grounding plug and two buttons (TEST and RESET) for testing the current device.
  • Electrical Requirements: The electrical service must be adequate for the specific model, as indicated on the serial plate. Proper grounding is essential to minimize shock and fire hazards. No extension cords or adapter plugs should be used.
  • Heater Clearance (if applicable): Appliances with an electric heater require at least 1 meter space to combustible materials.

Usage Features:

  • Electronic Control Panel: Allows for easy selection of operating modes, fan speeds, and temperature settings.
  • Remote Control: Enables convenient operation from a distance.
  • Operating Modes:
    • Auto Mode: Automatically selects cooling, heating (if available), or fan-only operation based on the set temperature and room temperature. Fan speed is automatically controlled.
    • Cool Mode: Provides cooling with adjustable fan speeds (Auto, Low, Med, High).
    • Dry Mode: Functions as a dehumidifier, generally operating with low fan speed.
    • Fan Only Mode: Circulates room air or exhausts stale air (on some models) without cooling. Fan speed is adjustable. The display shows actual room temperature.
  • Temperature Setting: Adjustable between 62°F (17°C) and 86°F (30°C). Can be displayed in Fahrenheit or Celsius (toggle by pressing Left and Right Temp/Timer buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds).
  • Fan Speeds: Four settings: Auto, Low, Med, High.
  • Sleep Feature: Gradually increases the set temperature by 2°F/1°C after 30 minutes, and again after another 30 minutes, maintaining the new temperature for 6 hours before returning to the original setting. Can be cancelled at any time.
  • Energy Saver Feature: Available in Cool, Dry, and Auto (Auto-Cooling and Auto-Fan) modes. The fan runs for 3 minutes after the compressor shuts off, then cycles on for 2 minutes at 10-minute intervals until cooling resumes.
  • Follow Me Feature (on some models): Activates via remote control, which acts as a remote thermostat, sending actual room temperature readings to the unit every 3 minutes for precise temperature control at the remote's location.
  • Timer (Auto Start/Stop): Allows scheduling the unit to turn on or off after a set period (0.5-hour increments up to 10 hours, then 1-hour increments up to 24 hours).
  • Air Directional Louvers: Adjustable horizontally and vertically to direct airflow as desired.
  • Fresh Air Vent Control (10000~12000Btu/h models): Allows selection to recirculate inside air (Vent Closed), draw fresh air into the room (Vent Open), or exchange air from the room and draw fresh air in (Vent and Exhaust Open).
  • Automatic 3-Minute Time Delay: In Cool mode, if the unit is turned off and on quickly, there's a 3-minute delay before the compressor restarts to prevent overheating and circuit breaker tripping. The fan continues to run during this time.
  • Power Outage Memory: If power is unexpectedly cut, the unit will restart with the previous function settings once power resumes.

Maintenance Features:

  • Air Filter Cleaning: The air filter should be checked at least once a month. A "Check Filter" reminder LED illuminates after 250 hours of operation. The filter can be washed with liquid dishwashing detergent and warm water, rinsed, and dried, or vacuumed. Never use hot water over 104°F (40°C) or operate the unit without the filter.
  • Cabinet Cleaning: The cabinet and front can be dusted with an oil-free cloth or wiped with a cloth dampened in a solution of warm water and mild liquid dishwashing detergent. Avoid harsh cleaners, wax, or polish. Ensure excess water is wrung from the cloth when wiping around controls.
  • Winter Storage: Instructions are provided for carefully removing the unit from the window, covering it with plastic, and storing it in its original carton during winter.
  • Troubleshooting Tips: A dedicated section helps diagnose common issues such as the unit not starting, insufficient cooling, ice formation, rapid cycling, noise, and water dripping, providing solutions before service is required.
  • Professional Service: Recommendations to contact a qualified electrician for electrical issues, an authorized service center for power cord replacement or unit repair/maintenance, and an authorized installer for installation.
