Inspectingthetransducer
Avisualinspectionofthetransducerisrequiredtoverifyitsphysicalconditionand
appearancepriortodelivery.Thetransducersurfacemustbeinspectedforpotentialdamage
thatmayhaveaneffectontheoperation.
Prerequisites
TheST90systemhasbeensetupwithitshardwareunitsconnectedasspeciedinthe
InstallationManual.TheST90systemisturnedoff.Neithertoolsnorinstrumentsare
required.
Context
Thetransduceriscoveredwithathickredorblackprotectivecoatingmadeofaspecial
plastictype.Theprotectivecoatingisavitalpartofthetransducer.Itisveryimportant
that
neitherthiscoatingnortheinternalpartsofthetransduceraredamagedduringthehandling,
installationorcleaning.Anyholesand/orscratchesinthetransducersurfacewillallow
watertopenetratethetransducer.Ifaleakoccurs,thetransducermustbereplaced.
Insomecases,theHullUnit(withtransducer)isshippedtotheinstallationshipyardbefore
theFactoryAcceptanceTesttakesplace.Thisinspectionisthenomitted.
Procedure
1Makesurethatthetransducer’sserialnumberhasbeenrecordedinthelistofhardware.
2Makesurethatthetransducerisnew.
3Doathoroughvisualinspectionofthetransducer.Checkfordents,scratches,holes
orotherdamagetothesurface.
Thetransduceriscoveredwithathickredorblackprotectivecoatingmadeofaspecial
plastictype.Itisveryimportant
thatneitherthiscoatingnortheinternalpartsofthe
transduceraredamagedduringthehandling,installationorcleaning.Anyholesand/or
scratchesinthetransducersurfacewillallowwatertopenetratethetransducer.Ifaleak
occurs,thetransducermustbereplaced.
