Overview

This document is an owner's manual for an LG Room Air Conditioner, providing instructions for operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. It is available in both English and French.

Function Description

The LG Room Air Conditioner is designed to provide cooling, heating (for heat pump models), auto operation, and healthy dehumidification for indoor spaces. It features a remote control for convenient operation and various modes to optimize comfort and energy efficiency.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Batteries: The remote control requires 2 AAA (1.5 volt) batteries. Rechargeable batteries are not recommended.
  • Temperature Settings:
    • Cooling Operation: Temperature can be set within a range of 18°C to 30°C in 1°C increments.
    • Heating Operation (Heat Pump Model Only): Temperature can be set within a range of 16°C to 30°C in 1°C increments.
  • Fan Speed: The indoor fan speed can be selected in four steps: low, medium, high, and CHAOS mode.
  • Jet Cool/Heating Operation:
    • Cooling Mode: Operates at super high fan speed for 30 minutes.
    • Heating Mode: Operates at super high fan speed for 60 minutes.
  • Sleep Mode: Available for 1 to 7 hours, with temperature adjustments for comfortable sleeping (rises by 1°C over 30 minutes and by 2°C in 1 hour in cooling/dehumidification modes).
  • Auto Restart: In case of power failure, the unit automatically restarts with previous operating conditions. The fan operates at low speed initially, and the compressor starts 2.5-3 minutes later, resuming the previous setting mode.
  • Cooling Capacity: The cooling capacity indicated in specifications is for high fan speed; capacity will be lower at low or medium fan speed.

Usage Features

Remote Control: The remote control is the primary interface for operating the air conditioner. It features:

  • START/STOP BUTTON: To turn the unit on or off.
  • OPERATION MODE SELECTION BUTTON: To select between Cooling, Auto, Healthy Dehumidification, and Heating (heat pump models only) modes.
  • ROOM TEMPERATURE SETTING BUTTONS: To adjust the desired room temperature.
  • INDOOR FAN SPEED SELECTOR: To choose fan speed (low, medium, high, CHAOS).
  • JET COOL/HEATING BUTTON: To initiate rapid cooling or heating.
  • CHAOS SWING BUTTON: To control the up/down airflow direction.
  • ON/OFF TIMER BUTTONS: To set start and stop times for operation.
  • TIME SETTING BUTTONS: To adjust the current time.
  • TIMER SET/CANCEL BUTTON: To confirm or cancel timer settings.
  • SLEEP MODE AUTO BUTTON: To activate sleep mode.
  • AIR CIRCULATION BUTTON: To circulate room air without cooling or heating.
  • ROOM TEMPERATURE CHECKING BUTTON: To check the current room temperature.
  • RESET BUTTON: Used for resetting time or after replacing batteries.
  • 2nd F Button: Activates functions printed in blue at the bottom of buttons, primarily for timer settings.

Operation Modes:

  • Cooling Operation: Sets a desired temperature and fan speed for cooling. CHAOS logic provides a natural breeze effect by automatically changing fan speed.
  • Auto Operation: Automatically sets temperature and fan speed based on room temperature. Users can adjust the set temperature within limits. Chaos swing can be activated for automatic louver movement.
  • Healthy Dehumidification Operation: Automatically sets room temperature and airflow volume for optimal dehumidification based on sensed room temperature. The setting temperature is not displayed or controllable in this mode. CHAOS logic applies to fan speed.
  • Heating Operation (Heat Pump Model Only): Sets a desired temperature and fan speed for heating. CHAOS logic applies to fan speed.
  • Jet Cool/Heating Operation: Provides rapid cooling or heating at super high fan speed for a set duration (30 minutes for cooling, 60 minutes for heating). Can be canceled by pressing the Jet Cool, fan, or temperature setting buttons.
  • Airflow Direction Control: Allows adjustment of up/down and right/left airflow using the Chaos Swing button.
  • Air Circulation Mode: Circulates room air without cooling or heating. Fan speed can be adjusted, including CHAOS Air mode which economizes power consumption and prevents overcooling by automatically changing fan speed based on ambient temperature.
  • Forced Operation: Allows basic operation (on/off) using a power button on the unit itself, useful if the remote control is unavailable. The unit operates in cooling mode at high speed fan during test operation.

Timer Functions:

  • Setting the Time: Requires pressing the Reset button first, then using Time Setting buttons.
  • Delay Start/Pre-Set Stop: Allows setting a delayed start or stop time for the unit. Various combinations of ON and OFF timers can be set.

Maintenance Features

Indoor Unit:

  • Grille, Case, and Remote Control: Turn off the system before cleaning. Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid water hotter than 40°C, volatile substances (gasoline, benzene, thinner, powder detergent), bleach, or abrasives, as these can cause deformation, discoloration, or damage.
  • Air Filters: The air filters behind the front grill should be checked and cleaned every two weeks or more often if necessary.
    1. Pull down the grille bottom.
    2. Lift the filter tab and slowly remove the filter.
    3. Clean with a vacuum or warm, soapy water. For conspicuous dirt, use lukewarm water and detergent.
    4. After washing, dry well in the shade.
    5. Re-install the air filter.
  • Power Disconnection: Supply power must be disconnected before cleaning the indoor unit.

Outdoor Unit:

  • Heat Exchanger Coils and Panel Vents: Should be checked regularly. If clogged with dirt or soot, professional steam cleaning is recommended. Dirty or clogged coils reduce operating efficiency and increase costs.

General Operation Tips:

  • Avoid Overcooling: Not good for health and wastes electricity.
  • Keep Blinds/Curtains Closed: Prevents direct sunshine from entering the room during operation.
  • Maintain Uniform Room Temperature: Adjust airflow direction for even temperature distribution.
  • Keep Doors and Windows Shut: Maximizes cooling efficiency.
  • Clean Air Filter Regularly: Blockages reduce airflow and cooling/dehumidifying effects. Clean at least once every two weeks.
  • Ventilate Occasionally: Open windows now and then, especially since they are kept closed during operation.

Troubleshooting: The manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues such as the unit not operating, peculiar odors, condensation leaks, delayed restart, ineffective cooling/heating, noisy operation, and remote control display issues. It suggests checking timer settings, circuit breakers, air filters, temperature settings, and battery status before calling for service.
