Do you have a question about the Lowara BG Series and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document provides comprehensive instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of Lowara electric pumps, including the BG, CEA, CA, HM, and HMS series, as well as the BGM GARDEN models. These pumps are designed for various applications, primarily involving the movement of clean, non-aggressive water.

Function Description

The Lowara electric pumps are primarily used for handling clean, non-aggressive water free from dissolved gases in civil and industrial water distribution systems, and for irrigation.

  • BG, CEA, CA, HM models: These are standard electric pumps for clean water applications.
  • BGM GARDEN models: These are self-priming pumps that can be used with water containing a moderate amount of dissolved gas (air).
  • CEA..V, CEA..N, CA..V, CA..N, CO, CO..K, HMS models: These are special versions designed for handling moderately chemically aggressive liquids or particular mixtures. The CO model can also handle liquids with a moderate presence of solid bodies.

Important Technical Specifications

The pumps operate within specific limits to ensure safe and efficient performance:

  • Maximum operating pressure: 800 kPa (8 bar).
  • Liquid temperature: Refer to Table 1 in the manual for specific temperature limits, which can vary by model and gasket material (e.g., -10°C to +85°C for NBR gaskets, -10°C to +110°C for EPDM/FPM gaskets). For domestic use, the maximum liquid temperature should not exceed 90°C.
  • Maximum ambient temperature: 40°C.
  • Maximum number of starts per hour: 40.
  • Maximum free passage for suspended solids: 11 mm (for CO 350...) and 20 mm (for CO 500...).
  • Electrical specifications: Voltage, frequency, and absorbed current are indicated on the pump's rating plate (Figure 13, ref. B). Single-phase pumps have built-in automatic reset thermoamperometric protection. Three-phase pumps require an external protection device with specific characteristics: 380-415V voltage and 10A input current.

Usage Features

  • Installation: The pumps are classified as fixed installation appliances, permanently connected to the electric mains (EN 60335-1). They must be securely fastened to a stable base using screws through the slots in the support foot. Proper hydraulic and electrical connections must be made by qualified technicians in compliance with national regulations. Eccentric adapters, positive slopes, and wide bends are recommended for correct installation (Figure 2). Avoid tight bends, negative slopes, and pipes with diameters smaller than the pump port diameter (Figure 3).
  • Priming: Before operation, the pump body and suction pipe must be filled with liquid through the fill plug to expel all air (Figures 7 and 8). For BG/BGM models, self-priming without a foot valve may take 3-4 minutes, so using a foot valve is always recommended.
  • Direction of Rotation (three-phase models only): The correct direction of rotation is clockwise when viewed from the motor side. This can be verified by observing the fan or by checking the pump's performance (higher pressures and flows indicate correct rotation). If the rotation is incorrect, two supply wires must be switched.
  • Safety: Always observe the operating limits to prevent damage to the pump, property, or injury to persons. Do not pump flammable, explosive, abrasive, solid, or fibrous liquids. Ensure adequate ventilation for motor cooling and protect the pump from weather and freezing. Disconnect the power supply before any maintenance, cleaning, or handling operations.

Maintenance Features

  • Routine Maintenance: The pumps do not require scheduled routine maintenance.
  • Servicing: Any intervention on the pump must be carried out by qualified personnel after disconnecting it from the electrical mains.
  • Power Cable Replacement (BGM GARDEN models): If the power cable (for models supplied with a cable and plug) is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, their technical assistance service, or similarly qualified personnel to prevent any risks.
  • Troubleshooting: In case of malfunctions, refer to the troubleshooting table in the manual, which lists probable causes and possible remedies. Always specify the exact pump type and identification code (Figure 14) when requesting technical information or spare parts. Use only original spare parts for replacement.

The manual also includes a declaration of EC conformity, confirming that the product complies with relevant European Directives (Machinery 2006/42/EC, Electromagnetic Compatibility 2004/108/EC) and technical standards (EN 809, EN 60335-1, EN 60335-2-41, EN 61000-6-1:2007, EN 61000-6-3:2007). For BGM GARDEN models, it also complies with Directive 2000/14/EC regarding noise emissions.
