Use piston ring pliers to place piston rings in the
correct piston ring grooves (”TOP” mark facing up-
wards).
Checking piston ring axial clearance

Use feeler gauge to ascertain the piston ring clear-
ance at several points in each groove.
For this purpose the piston ring is to be fully
pressed into the piston ring groove at the point to
be measured.
The pistons must be replaced if the clearance
ascertained is too large.
