10 Installing the Hard Drive
Attaching the Cables
An Ultra ATA cable no longer than 18 inches is recommended for all
UDMA-capable hard drives and is required for hard drives configured
as cable select.
Maxtor strongly recommends using the Ultra ATA
cable included in this package for maximum compatibility.
1.
Locate an available ATA connector on the motherboard or an
installed ATA PCI adapter card.
If you are unable to locate this con-
nector, consult the user manual for your system or ATA adapter card.
2.
Plug the blue connector on the provided Ultra ATA cable straight
into the ATA connector on your motherboard or ATA adapter card.
ATA connectors are keyed to
prevent improper insertion.
Do not rock or force ATA
connectors into place.
