Overview

This document outlines troubleshooting steps for a robotic pool cleaner, referred to as "Dolphin." It addresses various symptoms that users might encounter during its operation, providing possible reasons for these issues and corresponding corrective actions. The Dolphin is designed to clean pools, and its functionality includes moving across the pool floor and climbing walls, depending on the model.

Function Description:

The Dolphin is an automated pool cleaning device. Its primary function is to remove debris, dirt, and algae from the pool, ensuring a clean swimming environment. It operates by moving around the pool, filtering water, and scrubbing surfaces. Different models may have varying capabilities, such as wall-climbing or remote control operation.

Usage Features:

The Dolphin is designed for ease of use, but proper setup and operation are crucial for optimal performance.

  • Cable Management: The device uses a cable for power and operation. Users should ensure the cable is not obstructed, twisted, or coiled up, as this can impede the Dolphin's movement. Excess cable in the pool should be removed. For models with wall-climbing capabilities, the cable should be straightened and laid in the sun periodically to prevent coiling.
  • Movement and Coverage: The Dolphin is expected to move freely and cover all areas of the pool, including the floor and walls. If it moves in circles, it could indicate a foreign object in its moving parts, a clogged filter bag, or incorrect power supply positioning. For wall-climbing models, if it doesn't travel sideways on walls or turn correctly, the handle's diagonal position might need adjustment, or handle floats might need to be shifted or removed.
  • Wall Climbing: Specific Dolphin models are designed to climb pool walls. If a wall-climbing model fails to climb, potential reasons include a full filter bag, large debris in the pool, cold water temperature, worn brushes, slippery ceramic tiles, debris around the impeller, trapped air, unsuitable pH levels, or incorrect brushes. For models with remote control, a non-climbing parameter might be programmed.
  • Submergence: The Dolphin should submerge fully into the water. If it fails to submerge, it's often due to air caught in the filter bag or dry brush sponges.
  • Air Bubbles: If air bubbles escape from the impeller tube or the Dolphin disengages from the wall at the waterline, it might be climbing too high. This could be resolved by removing a handle float or adding a weight to the bottom lid.
  • Remote Control Operation: Some Dolphin models come with a remote control. If the remote control batteries are flat or dead, they need to be replaced. For wall-climbing models with remote control, if the device doesn't climb, the remote control might need to be reprogrammed for climbing.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is essential to ensure the Dolphin's longevity and effective operation.

  • Filter Bag Cleaning: The filter bag is a critical component for trapping debris. It should be cleaned regularly, especially if it's full or clogged. For heavy debris, a special rough dirt filter bag might be necessary, or the regular filter bag should be cleaned more often. The filter bag can be machine washed.
  • Brush Maintenance: Brushes are crucial for scrubbing pool surfaces. Worn brushes should be replaced. For slippery ceramic tiles, consulting a dealer about special brushes is recommended. Combined brush sponges, if dry, should be soaked in water until fully wet.
  • Impeller and Drive System: The impeller and drive system should be kept clear of obstructions. If the impeller is blocked, it needs to be cleaned. If the drive system is blocked, the tracks and wheels should be cleaned. Debris caught around the impeller should be untwisted or removed, and the impeller tube cleaned.
  • Power Supply: The power supply should be correctly positioned to reach all pool areas. If there's an electrical problem, the power source should be checked. If the power supply light is off, the fuse might need changing. If the light is on but the motors aren't working, a dealer should be contacted. If the power supply gets wet, it could be damaged, and a dealer should be contacted.
  • Water Conditions: Maintaining correct pool water conditions is important for the Dolphin's performance. The pH level should be between 7.0 and 7.4. Salt levels should not exceed 5,000 ppm. The water temperature should ideally be between 12°C and 32°C.
  • Algae Removal: If algae is present on walls and the floor, it should be brushed manually.
  • Trapped Air: If air is trapped in the Dolphin, it can be released by turning the device upside down underwater. Opening the two inlet flaps in the bottom lid can also help remove dirt and trapped air. Using a new filter bag with holes can also address trapped air issues.
  • Routine Servicing: Like any mechanical device, the Dolphin may require routine servicing due to normal wear and tear. In such cases, it should be sent for servicing.
  • Operator Care: Users should avoid damaging the Dolphin, pulling on its cable, or operating it out of water, as this can cause damage to seals or other components. Regular maintenance and proper handling by the operator are key to preventing issues.
