6. Secure the gear housing to the driveshaft housing with two bolts. Tighten the bolts to the specified torque.

7. Tighten the bolt clamping the upper and lower shift shafts. With the outboard in neutral, the propeller shaft should turn
freely. If the propeller shaft does not turn freely in neutral, loosen the clamping bolt and verify the shift lever and gear
housing are both in neutral. Tighten the bolt. Install the access cover.

8. Verify the correct shift operation. The propeller shaft should turn freely in either direction in neutral. In forward, the propeller
shaft should turn approximately 90 degrees in either direction before stopping. If the shift operation is not as described,
remove the gear housing and inspect the shift cam and clutch for proper assembly.
