2-3 CUTTING MOVEMENT AND
RETRACTION
To start the cutting movement of the microtome,
turn the handwheel. As the specimen moves down,
sectioning is carried out (cutting movement, fig.
3.2). Continue turning the handwheel to bring the
specimen back up (fig. 3.4). To protect the knife
and specimen during return travel, the specimen is
retracted (R). The yellow LED RETRACTION
(fig. 6.2) lights up. If desired, the function
<retraction> can be turned off (see 2-8, turning off
the function <retraction>).

2-4 LOCKING AND UNLOCKING
THE HANDWHEEL
The handwheel is integrated into the housing. The
position of the handle corresponds to the vertical
position of the specimen.
To unlock the handwheel, turn the lever
downwards in the direction of the arrow.
To lock the handwheel, turn the lever upwards.
The handwheel can be locked in any position.

CAUTION! For your personal safety, the
handwheel should be locked in the upper range of
the vertical movement when changing specimens.
