2-6-2 TRIMMING AND FIRST CUTS
After the specimen and the knife are adjusted,
further gradual feed for trimming can be carried
out using the function <trimming>. For different
sectioning series, deeper layers of the specimen
can be reached with the function <trimming>.
Button (fig. 6.6) is used for trimming. Whenever
the button (fig. 6.6) is pressed, the specimen
holder together with the specimen moves forwards
by the trimming value which was pre-selected on
the control knob (fig. 5.3).
If you have chosen section thickness setting via the
control knob (fig. 5.3), however, you now press
the trimming button (fig. 6.6), the specimen holder
moves forwards by the pre-selected trimming
value.
This way of trimming is normally chosen, when
there is still some distance between specimen and
knife edge.
The other way to trim a specimen is used to get
faster to the desired sectioning level.
For this, choose the trimming section setting by
pressing the control knob (fig. 5.3). Then the red
LED in button (fig. 6.6) lights up in addition. The
feed is carried out at each handwheel rotation in
the upper reversal point.
2-6-3 FINE FEED
After having adjusted knife and specimen as well
as having trimmed the specimen, sectioning can be
started.
Press the control knob (fig. 5.3) to select the
section thickness setting.
Turn the handwheel continuously in one direction
to feed the specimen at the selected section
thickness.
