Requests for Daily Care and Maintenance
This machine is a precision machine equipped with extremely fine mechanisms. Especially, the nozzle sur-
face of the heads from which the ink is discharged is affected even by a slightest attachment of dust or paper
powder and the proper printing results could not be obtained. With a view to using this machine in a better
condition, we would like to recommend performing the following care and maintenance on daily basis.

Overview

The Mimaki UJF-3042MkII/3042MkII e/3042MkII EX/3042MkII EX e/6042MkII/6042MkII e is an inkjet printer designed for precision printing. It utilizes ultraviolet curable (UV) ink, which requires specific handling and safety precautions. The device is built with extremely fine mechanisms, making it susceptible to issues caused by dust or paper powder on the nozzle surface. Therefore, regular care and maintenance are crucial for optimal performance and to ensure proper printing results.

Function Description

This printer is primarily used for producing high-quality prints using UV ink. Its precision design allows for detailed and accurate output. The device is capable of handling various media types, including those that reflect UV light well, such as glass or glazed metal. It also features mechanisms to manage static electricity, which can be an issue when printing on certain media or in dry environments.

The printer incorporates several features to maintain print quality and head stability. These include a capping station, mist filters, and a wiper system, all designed to keep the print heads clean and prevent ink clogging. It also has a waste ink tank to collect excess ink and a system for managing antifreeze liquid, which is essential for the machine's internal mechanisms.

Usage Features

To ensure stable ink discharge, especially when the printer is not used for extended periods, it may be necessary to periodically discharge a small amount of ink (flushing). The device includes a "CUSTODY WASH" function for this purpose. When the machine is not in use, it's recommended to turn off the power switch on the front while keeping the main power switch on the side and the cable socket inserted.

The printer's performance is significantly influenced by the working environment and media conditions. For instance, if the head gap is set wide due to fibers on the media, or if media that reflects UV light well is used, adjustments to the refreshing level for drawing and automatic maintenance settings may be required. Infrequently used print heads can become unstable, necessitating an increase in the refreshing level to maintain usage rate. In dry environments or with media prone to static, using an optional ionizer or humidifier is recommended to prevent mist or dust accumulation around the printing area and head.

When printing on markedly uneven media, it's important to fill the gap by setting media that are not in use to prevent degradation of the head from reflected light.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is critical for the longevity and performance of the Mimaki printer. The manual outlines a comprehensive schedule for daily, weekly, and monthly care, as well as maintenance when needed.

Daily Care:

  • Surroundings of the heads: Clean daily using a UJ Cleaning swab to prevent dust and dry ink from adhering to the nozzle surface, which can cause discharge defects. The side surface of the head (deep gray area) should be cleaned with a cleaning swab soaked in maintenance cleaning liquid. The nozzle part itself should never be touched.
  • Capping station: Clean the ink cap and wiper daily. If left dirty, dirt can adhere to the nozzle surface, and dry ink can be rubbed against the nozzle during wiping, leading to discharge defects.
  • Mist filter 1: Clean regularly. If heavily stained, it should be replaced.

Periodically Care (Twice a week for Ver.2 PR-200 ink, once a month for Ver.3 PR-200 ink):

  • Nozzle (for PR-200 ink only): The PR-200 ink can clog the nozzle. The nozzle should be cleaned by opening the maintenance cover, cleaning the wiper, cleaning the cap rubber of the PR-200 head, filling the cap with PR-200 maintenance liquid, closing the cover, setting a one-minute soak time, performing a hard head cleaning, and checking with a test print.

Periodically Care (Once a week):

  • Exterior: Wipe off dust or sand powder with a soft cloth dipped in water and squeezed tightly to prevent entry into moving parts.
  • Bottom of LED lamp and bottom of mist filter: Clean any adhered ink gently with a cleaning stick soaked in maintenance liquid. If there is dust, use tape with weak adhesive strength to lift it off, being careful not to rub the surface as the low reflection treatment may peel off.
  • Waste ink tank: Check if it's full and dispose of waste ink to prevent overflow.
  • Wiper waste ink tank (for suction wiper models): Frequently check the ink level and dispose of waste ink to prevent overflow.
  • Wiper tube (for suction wiper models): Fill with cleaning solution using a dropper through the mouth of the suction wiper.
  • Mist filter 2: Clean regularly. If heavily stained, it should be replaced.
  • Ink discharge passage: Wash regularly using the "DISWAY WASH" function to prevent nozzle clogging from ink coagulation. This involves selecting the function from the maintenance menu, pressing ENTER, opening the front cover, filling the cap with cleaning solution, and pressing ENTER again.

Periodically Care (Once a month):

  • Antifreeze liquid: Check the amount and refill if low to ensure the machine is in good working order.

Maintenance when needed:

  • LED UV unit: Periodically remove ink or dust from the irradiation part. Clean with care to avoid scratching, as dirt or light-shielding objects can hinder ink curing and cause banding. Replace the part if the stain is too strong.
  • Table: Remove attached ink with an alcohol-impregnated cloth, being careful not to scratch the surface. For stubborn ink, a special solvent may be required.
  • Vacuum hole clogging on the table: Remove cured ink from the vacuum holes to prevent clogging.
  • Bottom of the carriage: Remove attached ink.

Consumables Replacement:

  • Wipers/wiper absorbers: Replace when the warning message "!REPLACE WIPER/ABSORBER" appears, or if there is damage or excessive fuzz.
  • Nozzle cap: Replace if badly scratched or dirty.
  • Mist filter/mist filter box: Replace if heavily stained.
  • LED Glass: Replace if heavily stained.

Recovery Method for Defective Nozzle Discharge: If nozzle discharge issues occur, a systematic recovery process is recommended:

  1. Perform daily maintenance and care.
  2. Perform normal head cleaning.
  3. If issues persist, perform hard head cleaning.
  4. If issues still persist, perform "urtora" head cleaning.
  5. Perform sub-tank maintenance.
  6. Perform nozzle wash.
  7. (For rubber wiper models) Replace the wiper.
  8. Set the nozzle recovery function.
  9. If a large number of white missing nozzles remain, set the white maintenance. If issues persist after these steps, contact customer support.

Safety Precautions:

  • Always wear safety glasses and gloves when handling UV ink.
  • Ensure the LED UV has cooled sufficiently before maintenance to prevent burns.
  • Never disassemble the machine to avoid electrical shock, fire, and breakage.
  • Keep the machine dry to prevent electrical shock, fire, and breakage.
  • Always switch off the power and remove the power cable before maintenance.
  • Avoid using benzine, thinner, or abrasive chemicals, as they can damage the cover.
  • Do not apply lubricant oil inside the machine, as it can cause breakdown.
  • Prevent water or alcohol from mixing with UV ink, as this can cause aggregates. Be careful not to get water or alcohol on the nozzle surface, head, cap, or wiper.
